Ven. Luon Sovath cheered by supporters after the court drop all charges due to technical fault.
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Tuesday cancelled hearing of prominent monk activist, who was accused of series of criminal charges, due to technical fault.
Speaking at the hearing after a 15-minute break consideration, president judge Tob Chhonheng said that the hearing today is not linked to Luon Savath because the case had already been finished since 2010, and was invalid.
Some 200 people were protesting outside the court during the hearing to demand that the court drop charge against Luon Savath.
Civil society officials, opposition lawmakers and foreign diplomats were also seen closely following the hearing.
Luon Savath was charged with inciting crimes, inciting citizens no to go to cast ballots in Takeo province, Banteay Meanchey, Poipet provinces and Phnom Penh from 2007 to 2013, and conspiracy treason on August 2013.
