PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, accompanied by his mother, former Queen Norodom Monineath, left Cambodia for Beijing on Monday for routine medical checkups.
At the Phnom Penh International Airport, the royal family was seen off by National Assembly President Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Hun Sen and royal family members.
Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo was also present at the see-off ceremony.
In a royal message to the compatriots, King Norodom Sihamoni, 61, said his visit to Beijing was to have his health checked up and to visit a province in China.
"During my absence from Cambodia, Chea Sim, president of the senate, will assume the title of the acting head of state of Cambodia," he said.
The king usually has his health checked up by Chinese doctors twice a year. His last body checkup and treatment was in February.

No Cambodian doctors are skillfull and capable of assess, evaluate and treat the King.
aren't foreign doctors in cambodia good enough to do a physical check-up ? or they just want to waste money -- hopefully its their own money and not from khmer taxpayers...
Cambodian doctor is not considered the best for King. Even high-class families go to Vietnam for medical treatment. Such a poor thing for us.
The King just check his penis, how deep it goes inside his skin.
Are you folks accusing the King to be under Vietnam's control?
Anyway, Khmer doctors are useless. Why does your King have to go to China for medical check-up? What a lame country.

No need for the excuse, if you go to China and never come back it will be better off for Cambodia.
You will do Cambodia a favor by not allowing Hun Sen to use you, Sihamoni.
