PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – 189,816 Vietnamese tourists visited Cambodia in first quarter of 2014, ranking first, according to the tourism minister on Thursday.
Speaking at a workshop on Cambodian-Vietnamese Investment and Trade Promotion, Tourism Minister Thong Khon also said 133,485 Cambodian people visited Vietnam in the same period of 2014.
Khon said Cambodia welcomed 4.2 million tourists including 854,104 Vietnamese visitors last year, generating US$2.5 billion and providing about 400,000 direct jobs and tens of thousands of non-direct jobs.
871,646 Cambodian people went abroad last year, up 10 percent compared to a year earlier. Of this, 342,347 visited Vietnam, Khon said.
He added that Cambodia this year is expected to receive 4.7 million visitors, 5 million tourists in 2015 and 7-8 million in 2020.
The minister added that the growth of tourists in Cambodia has boosted tourism investment in the country. In 2013, Cambodia received tourism investment project worth about US$3.5 billions.
