Japanese golf legend Massy Kuramoto and evergreen Thai star Boonchu Ruangkit will be aiming to roll back the years in the Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic next week.
The highly decorated duo will feature in the inaugural US$300,000 Asian Tour event at the Nick Faldo-designed Angkor Golf Resort as sponsor's invites where they will face a powerful line-up of Asian Tour stars consisting of six of the top-10 players from the Order of Merit.
No fewer than 26 other Asian Tour champions will feature in Asia's newest tournament from March 14 to 17.
Young Chinese talent Hu Mu, who trains under renowned swing coach David Leadbetter, will also be in the elite field in the historical city of Siem Reap after enjoying two solid performances at the Zaykabar Myanmar Open and ICTSI Philippine Open last month.
All eyes will be on Kuramoto and Boonchu, who have a combined age of 111 years.
The 56-year-old Kuramoto has 30 tournament wins on the Japan Golf Tour where amongst his career highlights include a commendable tied fourth finish at the 1982 British Open.
Boonchu, who struck the opening tee shot when the Asian Tour was formed as a players' organisation in 2004, has five titles on the Asian Tour. While he is now competing primarily on the Senior Tour, he has certainly not lost the knack for winning.
In 2010, the 55-year-old Thai won the European Senior Tour Order of Merit crown thanks to a season to remember which included four victories. Last year, he won once as well on the senior circuit.
There will be immense local interest when Cambodian amateurs Ly Hong and Seng Vanseiha tee up in the Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic. The local duo will have the opportunity to compete against Asian Tour stars including the in-form Mardan Mamat of Singapore, Thai ace Prayad Markseng, Bangladeshi sensation Siddikur, Filipino Angelo Que, American Berry Henson, Dutchman Guido Van Der Valk and Japanese star Daisuke Maruyama.
The Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic will be the fifth leg of the 2012 Asian Tour season. Six-time Major champion Nick Faldo will grace the event and also play in the tournament's pro-am scheduled on March 18, Sunday in Phnom Penh.
