There is something to be said when it comes to the laziest nations in the world. Most publications associate laziness with what people do (or NOT do) in their spare time, after all duties have been taken care of. To me, that’s a fundamental mistake and doesn’t reflect on the laziness at all. People who bust their butts off so they can have some time for themselves are not lazy. True laziness comes to play when an entire nation can’t get the work – the necessary duties done because they can’t be bothered to get off their soft motorcycle seats. And this is why Cambodia is the laziest nation in the world. Everywhere you go, any time of day you will see hundreds of people of all ages idling in the streets, doing absolutely nothing just killing time by hanging loose. You will be wondering why they are all out here doing nothing. You will be asking yourself – shouldn’t these people be at work and kids at school? How can a nation sustain itself if nobody can be bothered to do any work? Those are all legitimate questions and anyone who pays attention will undoubtedly have them cross their minds upon their first visit to Cambodia.

History of Cambodia – The Laziest Nation in the World

It comes as a striking contrast when one visits the temples of Angkor Archaeological Park and sees the megalomaniac structures Angkorian era civilization was capable of constructing. Could the laziest nation in the world built the world’s largest religious complex? Obviously, Cambodia a millennium ago was different from Cambodia today – aside from being a culture of violence, as Cambodians are as violent today as they have always been.

So Cambodians were definitely not lazy back then, back when the temples of Angkor were built, but what happened? That I guess is as difficult to explain as is the abrupt end to once powerful empire. Ancient Khmer rulers were on top of the game and controlled the region but then something happened and Angkor was abandoned. Everything about the Khmer people, everything – including their approach to work has changed. The end of Angkorian era was the end of decent Cambodia. The empire failed and so did the people. People who were once capable of building monumental structures are nowadays capable of nothing more than idling and doing absolutely a great deal of nothing. Unless verbally and physically abusing foreigners can be considered an activity. Luckily the former can be done from the comfort of their motorcycle seat…

(Photo: Once Capable of Building Monumental Temples, Now The Laziest Nation in the World)

The fact that Cambodia is the laziest nation in the world is not something I am the first person to notice. When the French entered the area and colonized the country in the 1800s, they noticed that Cambodians are incredibly lazy and never get anything done. No matter what they’d tried, no Cambodian could be bothered to get off their ass so the French were left with one and only option – go to a foreign land and bring the people from there to work in Cambodia. Vietnam was the closest and since colonization of Thailand was never much of a success for the French, Vietnam it was. Obviously, it wouldn’t matter where they’d go as any normal nation will have many people who can get the work done, it’s only Cambodia where there was absolutely no one who could be bothered.

Cambodia – Still the Laziest Nation in the World

Today, centuries after the French learned the hard way that nothing in Cambodia gets done because Cambodians are extremely lazy, the situation is unchanged. Cambodia is still the laziest nation in the world but the French are no longer the only ones to know it. Following the industrial revolution, many multi-national companies moved much of their production to Asia and have factories in countries surrounding Cambodia, but none of them is in any rush to open one in this country. Now why would that be? Obviously, they know something that prevents them from making a grave mistake of investing in Cambodia and employing Cambodians. It’s their money and money of their shareholders that are in stake and as such, none of these companies will ever consider opening a factory in Cambodia because they know that nothing would ever get done.

You will find countless garment producers, such as Nike or Adidas, or electronics makers, such as Samsung or Siemens in surrounding countries (Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.) but none of them would consider opening a factory in Cambodia. So why is given that cost of labour in Cambodia is often lower than cost of labour in any of the surrounding countries? Why would they not consider opening a factory in Cambodia if there is a prospect for them to save money on wages? Do they know something we don’t know? Yes they do. They know that no matter how (seemingly) inexpensive the labour is in Cambodia, because people here are the laziest people in the world, at the end of the day nothing would get done.

See the Laziest Nation in the World for Yourself

It doesn’t take a genius to see that Cambodia is the laziest nation in the world. Anyone with marginal observation talent will notice that people here can’t be bothered to work. They just sit around whole day on their motorcycles, hiding from the sun in the shade, grouping up with buddies who are as lazy as themselves, killing their time they have too much of by verbally or physically abusing the foreigners. This laziness is present on every corner of every street in Cambodia and it is one of the reason why Cambodia is so dangerous. Because vast majority of population is not involved with their lives, they are not busy looking after their families so they seek excitement from the comfort of their motorcycle seats.

Those who spend an extra time in Cambodia will notice that progress in everything is extremely slow. When there is a construction going on, you will see people sitting around and chatting instead of getting the work done. That’s why every serious firm looking to open a retail shop or a hotel will contract foreign companies to built the business for them. Contracting Cambodians would mean the business will take forever to start.
Photo: Common Picture in Cambodia - Instead of Being at Work, Lazy Locals Just Sit Around
(Photo: Common Picture in Cambodia - Instead of Being at Work, Lazy Locals Just Sit Around)

Laziness however exists in all walks of life in Cambodia. Kids don’t go to school because they can’t be bothered to learn or do the homeworks. Are you kidding me? A Cambodian kid learning at home to maybe become someone more than a tout who makes abuse of foreigners their life purpose? This ain’t happening.

Cambodia – Most Expensive Labour in the World

When you look deeper into it, you will realize that the cost of labour in Cambodia is one of the highest in the world. Average monthly wage could be only $90, but given how extremely lazy Cambodians are, you will get at best 2 hours worth of labour per person per month. So by paying a Cambodian $90 a month, you are basically paying them $45 per hour. Normal Cambodian is so lazy they will not produce more than 2 hours worth of labour a month and do not forget that that’s only upon excessive supervision and investment of extra 10 hours of your own time to fix up what they had screwed up during their 2 hours worth of work. One really needs to put things in perspective before jumping to conclusions that Cambodians are underpaid. I could only wish I got $45 per hour for my work.

Supporting Cambodian Laziness

Shockingly enough, the world approves of and supports Cambodian laziness. With each dollar donated to Cambodians, with each piece of merchandise that makes it to Cambodia, the laziest nation of the world remains assured that they don’t have to try to change, that it makes no sense working hard for a dollar. If doing nothing lands them free money and things, why would they even attempt to work? Work has been excluded from their lives for centuries and there’s never been more reason to stay lazy than there is now. The philosophy is simple:
Let us do nothing and enjoy our lives without worrying about work, because work requires sacrifices and is tiring and distressing. Instead, let others go through the hassles and tension of employment. Let them work hard their entire lives, struggle for decades to eventually make it up the ladder, renouncing their spare time, their families and friends, let them dedicate the best part of their life to working for the man, instead of spending it with their loved ones, because by wearing themselves out working, they will eventually manage to save a few dollars up and that’s when we enter their view and have them send their money, the money they worked so hard for to us. That’s it – if you are too lazy and irresponsible to work, just whine about being poor and you’ll end up getting money from someone who was brought up being responsible and sacrificed their best years for work.
Photo: To Be Fair, Here Is a Picture of the Least Lazy Member of the Cambodian Society
(Photo: To Be Fair, Here Is a Picture of the Least Lazy Member of the Cambodian Society)

It is no secret that countries with strong work ethic are successful on an international scale. Lack of work ethic often means lack of character which is something that anyone who pays attention notices shortly after entering Cambodia. Most Cambodians will prefer to look and stay poor so they can get free stuff by getting sponsors to pay for them or donors to give it to them. An alternative to this is to roll up the sleeves and start to work hard for your money but that’s work, isn’t it? Why work if you can get stuff for free by whining out loud? Cambodia is without doubt the laziest nation in the world. You can see it everywhere you look, but it’s also proven by no interest in Cambodian labor from any multinational corporation and historical records of people who tried to make Cambodians work but failed. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

So sorry, I am just too lazy to respond to your article, Mr. Mark, whoever you are. Find something worthwhile such pull down your pants and self give yourself a good job.

Those men in the photos may be waiting for you, Mr Mark, to come over and pull down your pants and bend over. You know what those gay cambodian men are doing to butt hole.

My goodness, Mark. For whatever reason you have to hate Cambodians I don't know but your article is very demeaning, not only to Cambodians that you tried to insult, but particularly to yourself. Your repeats of the word "laziness" to refer the Cambodians are so frequent that your claim is no longer credible anymore. You are such an ignorant person about Cambodia. I am sure that you must have a bad experience in Cambodia, because you made several repetitions about Cambodians hurling abuses at foreigners from motorcycles. Maybe the word "foreigner" in the article really refer to yourself.

Look, the reason the French brought in Vietnamese workers do work in Cambodia during the colonial time were not due to the laziness of Cambodians, but due to the racism from the part of the French administration. During the colonial time, in Indochina (Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam), Vietnam was the dominant colony and the French colonialist authority employed many Vietnamese as local administrators. As such, these local Vietnamese administrators have more powers than the Cambodians and the Laotians, so they employed Vietnamese to work in these 3 countries. The fact that you seen too many people on the streets is not because they are lazy, it is because they have no work to do due to the corruption of the present government that failed to create jobs.
Cambodia's slow progress is not as a result of Cambodian laziness, but as a result of the corruption and lawlessness of the Cambodian present rulers.
Many foreign investors are now coming to Cambodia because of openness and the reduction of corruption. Garment producers such as Nike or Adidas, that you said in your article as not coming to Cambodia, are now buying garment products from garment producers in Cambodia.

Mark, stop your ignorance, do research before writing rubbish and such a very demeaning article against Cambodians. If you have a personal vendetta against any Cambodians who abused you during your travel, just release your anger against that/those person/persons, not against the whole Cambodian population.

This is the stupidest article. Doesn't he know that unemployment in Cambodia is about 35% in the country. If you give them job, they would gladly do it. Again, the writer is so stupid.

Anonymous said...

wow, this is the most flattering thing I ever heard of Cambodia. c'mon, there are tens of thousands of Cambodian men who entered Thailand looking for work. If wages and work at home are plentiful, they wouldn't need to cross the border. Who are those women who fainted on the garment factories, were they lazy working in there to earn the low wage and getting themselves the risk of terminal illness? You're talking about a systemic problem of no education and no job training schools for the last 30 years. Wait the next generation of our kids to grow up and enter the workforce. They will be different.

Mr. Mark, are you kidding us? Or you want to test the reaction of Cambodian people if we Khmer will or won’t unite to fight your article. You’re really blindly. To light your spot between your two ears and perhaps you could understand a bit more.
You could say some of them, but not insult the whole nation that’s not appropriate.

Hi Mark! Thanks for your article.I'm not trying to disprove you about your good concept of calling a spade the spade. But my personal spade is a bit different though,I went to your blog and read more of your articles there.I understood your Forwards versus Backwards stuffs of arguments there. And I'm sorry for the loss of your laser pen which some idiot Khmer official stole from your hand! Needless to say,I'm a Khmer from the US had lost so many things on my first visit to Cambodia in 1996.I have been even drugged in my hotel room in Phnom Penh and stripped off all my cashes even my prescribed medecines! But I have to assure you that Cambodia has changed so much so far.About Cambodian laziness,I think you're gone to the extreme, Mark.Literally no one believe your farfetched description of Khmer laziness.I wished you had befriended with some Khmer college girls in stead of limiting yourself with only Vietnamese girlfriends. But that is your personal preference. After all it is your good intention that Khmer will think of you if you really have one.

Believe that Mark is very upset with Cambodian Government under CPP/Yuon Party led by Hun Sen (who is Vietnamese/Yuon dog or puppet).

He is right, but it is wrong to insult Khmer/Cambodian people. He need to apologize for Khmer/Cambodian people and us.

It is not fair for us, Khmer people, who have been through too much of civil wars because of Communist CPP Yuon regime, Vietnamese control and fake power of Hun Sen (Vietnamese puppet).

Mark should blame the Communist Vietnamese/Yuon master-minded evils and folks in Hanoi or Vietnam who still interfere the affairs of Cambodian/Srok Khmer and Vietnam still has no respects to 1991 Peace Agreement in Paris after Hun Sen was installed as PM by Communist Vietnamese Masters in Hanoi.

Anonymous said...

I couldn't believe that such an educated man as Mark should take out his anger against all Cambodians for just losing a laser pen in Cambodia and demonized and demeaned all Cambodians in such a cruel way.
Before belittling Cambodians as the most laziest people on earth, he should look at himself as the most laziest person in the world for giving up his job and got on his lazy ass to travel around like a parasite. Why he gave up his job to travel? Because he is too lazy to work.

I don't want this debate to degenerate into a racist slur, but I just want to give one example. I can attest to the Cambodian work ethics because at my work the white boss would not employ the white men and rather employ Cambodians because they are hard working, have better work ethics, prepared to work long hours to help complete the job, where as the white people would just work their 8-hour shift and go home and don't care if the work get done or not. The Cambodian workers, on the other hand, have stayed for up to 14 hours to help finish the job, that's why the white boss preferred the Cambodian workers better. So, who is lazy here?

Why they are lazy but have a better scooter than I am. Maybe this yuon that speak khmer were paid by yuon agent to hang ,scan, initiate, deprive the khmer youth into a society of scums, numskull, trouble makers, disobey thier olders,etc...

If you have a bad experience about someone, place or country, limit your rants to those particular group/place(s) with justifications based on FACTS. DO NOT base on one example to generalise the whole country, you coward!
Your articles on Asia as a whole portray your ignorant and rascist character.
My advise to you is "if you don't like the place don't go", if you've done your research, you probably know what to expect for before leaving you cell in Canada; hence you won't have to write these kind of negative blogs afterwards. Sure Asia has its goods and bads, and so is Canada; it is inappropriate for you to rant and labelling the whole country base on your minor issue with the locals/places and attempts to justify your ignorants by some dumb logics! GROW UP!

11:19 AM, Mark has written many articles. It may have been generalized in his article, but his points are clear and with evidence.

After 30 years other nations continue to be a powerhouse. Even Vietname lost millions of lives, now they are the strong power of Asia. Cambodia? is the most dangerous country in Asia. Most corrupted countries in the world and also the most uneducated country in Asia.

So why are millions of Khmer still voting for Hun Sen, if they are educated?

I suggest you read his article with an open mind.

Are you serious? Where did Mark get these so called facts from? Most Cambodian are living in poverty (it is not a proud fact, but true), they’re struggling to earn enough to eat which leads to children not able to go to school; so DO NOT associate kid not able to attend school for laziness!

You are kidding me, Cambodian are so lazy that is why most of the Westerners in the OECD are jealous and accused them of stealing jobs from the locals. That is why they’re driving nice cars, live in luxury houses from working overtime to the envy of the locals who only willing to work 8 hour shift, refuse to stay back, drive a bomb, and live in a shack in their own country.

I have read Mark’s articles (not only regarding Cambodia, but other countries within Southeast Asia) with open mind, but from my understanding all of his articles regarding Asia are negatively attacking Asian as a race.
Unlike you, I am not affiliated to any of the political party in Cambodia, may it be the CPP or the oppositions. And unlike you, I don’t use this opportunity to attack any political party and support any attack on my fellow Cambodians without logic. So when I defend Cambodia, I defend the people NOT the government!
Initially I did not want to waist my time countering Mark’s comments point by point, but now it seemed necessary.
1. “True laziness comes to play when an entire nation can’t get the work – the necessary duties done because they can’t be bothered to get off their soft motorcycle seats”.
Either you are so ignorant that you do not know what is happening in Cambodia or you are so blinded by your anti CPP mind-set that you failed to see Mark’s ignorant logic to justify labeling Cambodian lazy.
Most of these guys on motorcycle seats on the street corners are moto-taxi drivers, rather endlessly drive around looking for customers, they choose a spot that offers them potential customers. The only difference between these guys and the taxi drivers in Western countries is that those in the West can afford to drive around looking for customers, and these Cambodian attempts to save fuel by waiting at a street corner.

2. “Following the industrial revolution, many multi-national companies moved much of their production to Asia and have factories in countries surrounding Cambodia, but none of them is in any rush to open one in this country. Now why would that be?”
Cambodia has only managed to achieve political stability after the event of July 1997; it takes decades to build a country and most importantly requires domestic stability. Political stability is one of the main risk assessments that any foreign investors look at before investing in a country, this is just one of the main reasons why Cambodia failed to get foreign investment in the late 1990s and early 2000s, NOT because Cambodian are lazy as Mark has blindly assumed. Whereas, Vietnam has been stable since the end of the American war (at least domestically) hence they have achieved more to some extent.

3. “You will find countless garment producers, such as Nike or Adidas, or electronics makers, such as Samsung or Siemens in surrounding countries (Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.) but none of them would consider opening a factory in Cambodia?”
While this statement is not true, the counter argument is still valid. NO reasonable company would be dumb enough to set up production line in two neighboring countries, it would defeat the purpose of economy of scale, especially given Cambodia’s small population of under 15 million, and only a fraction of those are potential markets. It is the same logic that multinationals decided to shut their production lines in Western countries and set up in China, it is not due to Westerners being lazy; only fools would accept Mark’s reasons as valid.

Mark, I think you have a problem with your brain. You should not take a few case (2 or 3 persons in the picture) to refer as all Cambodian. You and your nation should also include bad and good men as it is a natural way of human being.

I do want to hear you say "SORRY" to all Cambodian.

Anonymous said...

6:10 PM. I'm glad that you took your time to understand Mark's perspective.

Unlike you, I can see that millions of Khmer are suffering under the dictator ruling of 32 years. Mark has also made many articles and many evidence relating to the high crime rate, high corruption rate and high unemployment rate.

Did you really re-read Mark's blog, because I dont see it anywhere in his blog that he mentions he is affiliated with CPP or opposition parties. I suggest your open your eyes if you have 2, unlike the Dictator who has only one eye. Get my drift..

1. Mark is generalizing when he mentioned that Cambodia is the laziest nation in the world, but are the facts wrong. According the many research and many study, as mentioned above, Cambodia is the most corrupted country in the world, combined with high human trafficking, high crime rate, high unemployment rate, 80% of the land owned by government, over 15 millions hectares of lands are privatized, not to mentioned the former Khmer Rouge leaders installed by the Vietnamese. Lets not make this a political attack. Get my drift..

2. Cambodia only managed to achieved political stability, then why does the Dictator of 32 years, keeps making threats against the Western countries especially the UN, in obstructing justice. Bragging rights of peace and stability but protests from left to right, force evictions, violence and human right abuse.

3. "NO reasonable company would be dumb enough to set up production line"
The logic is simple, investors are attracted to a country of low corruption. As long as Hun Sen dictatorship rules the country, it will hamper the real potential growth. May i remind you about the recently discovered oil field and mineral mines (you really think the nation will be the first one to gain benefit under the Hun Sen ruling...)

4. "they’re struggling to earn enough to eat which leads to children not able to go to school; so DO NOT associate kid not able to attend school for laziness!"
Have you forgotten how many PhDs you can buy as long as you have the cash? Laziness is lack of education, over 50% of the population are under 18, then look at the statstic rate of those kids who actually finished schooling and found a job inside the country. Isnt a wonder where one can achieve PhDs without even opening books? (Do you ever wonder..in the Kingdom of Wonder)

5. Mark's argument here lacks understanding of "Purchasing Power" nor the understanding of our underage kids missing school to earn income for the families, or sick pregnant women working overtime to send money to the countryside.

I still suggest that you use your brain to understand Mark's approachment in his article. You can choose to sit on the fence and pretend that you are not affiliated with any parties you desire, what crime have you commit, if a few thousands just die here and there...right.

I do not think the messenger is mature enough to handle the political side effect of what he initiated and he will not gain any substantial benefit from his tentative move. If he wants to score more points over CPP I think he has to learn a lot more. Hatred and division is not a good tool for any young politicians especially កុលបុត្រមហានគរខ្មែរ.

If you are not so blinded by your anti CPP mentality and awaits any opportunity to attack them at any cost, you probably see that I was directing at YOU and not mark (read the 6:10 PM & 6:11 PM together), I’ve only countering Mark’s arguments to show you why his reason for labeling all Cambodian as lazy is shallow to say the least. At least Mark can be excused for being an ignorant foreigner who holds a grudge against Cambodian for what ever reason(s), or maybe he is simply racist.
However, I cannot stand a dumbass like YOU who fail to see that Mark’s negative blog has degrade all Cambodian (including yourself), and decided to defend Mark so that you can attack Hun Sen and his government.
Where in my articles did I defend Hun Sen or the CPP? You don’t need to be Einstein to know that Cambodia is full of corruptions & the people are living in poverty. Cambodia still has a long way to climb.
1. “Mark has also made many articles and many evidence relating to the high crime rate, high corruption rate and high unemployment rate.”
If you’re Cambodian, you don’t need Mark to tell you this! You already know that crime rate, corruption, and unemployment rate is the responsibility of the govt., so why are you defending Mark using this same reason to label Cambodian as lazy?

2. “Cambodia only managed to achieved political stability, then why does the Dictator of 32 years, keeps making threats against the Western countries especially the UN, in obstructing justice…”
Political stability, may it be in the form of dictatorship or democracy, is still stability; and it is a precondition for most multinationals before investing in the country. Even a communist country like Vietnam and China can attract investment, why? STABILITY!
So why are you defending Mark for using this reason to label Cambodian as lazy?

3. “Have you forgotten how many PhDs you can buy as long as you have the cash? Laziness is lack of education, over 50% of the population are under 18, then look at the statistic rate of those kids who actually finished schooling and found a job inside the country. Isn’t a wonder where one can achieve PhDs without even opening books?”
I’m not sure what your point is, but let me say this: Education is a tool to empower people, to improve the standard of living. However, just because some or most Cambodian are not educated it does not mean they’re lazy.
Did you know that according to indexmundi.com, Cambodia is the 6th largest milled rice exporter in the world, this ranking may have been higher if not for the lack of technology which forces Cambodian to on-sell their paddy to neighboring countries which in turns processed and exported as their own. The rice that you eat everyday are produced and harvested by the Cambodian farmers, who Mark called “LAZY”, and yet you’ve defended Mark just to attack the government!

Again, I am not affiliated to any political party nor I am defending the Hun Sen/CPP/govt..
If you want attack the govt., do it at your own will, but don’t defend some dumb ass foreigners who uses shallow ignorant logic to attack the Cambodian as a race.

10:29 AM.

I will make this short and clear, since you cant see the gray area. Here, i was hoping that you are not another idiots supporting the one-eyed dictator.

"Where in my articles did I defend Hun Sen or the CPP? And unlike you, I don’t use this opportunity to attack any political party"

Can you open your other eye, or are they both blind. Your question asked, where in the article did you defend Hun Sen or CPP. why dont you try to explain why you have swayed away from the main problem? OF COURSE ITS A POLITICAL ISSUE!! You are afraid to look at the underlying problem, is it because you are to blind to see it? Mark has looked at the political issue, is he affiliated with any parties or to gain any benefit?

1. so why are you defending Mark using this same reason to label Cambodian as lazy? If you’re Cambodian, you don’t need Mark to tell you this.

Because I agree with his points, here it is again.

-Mark is generalizing when he mentioned that Cambodia is the laziest nation in the world, but are the facts wrong.

If i am Cambodian i should know that?? Are you saying that all Cambodians have access and knowledge of the detailed information as stated above and are aware of your CPP propaganda? You make it sound like Cambodia (Kingdom of Wonder)is the most advanced nation in the world..

2. "Political stability, may it be in the form of dictatorship or democracy, is still stability;" Cambodia is a country of political stability whether its dictatorship or democracy. This is getting to funny. The more you talk the more you reveal your true colour. Killing, crimes, violence, murders, forced eviction, exile, defrock, are all okay because it creates a political stability.

3. "Did you know that according to indexmundi.com, Cambodia is the 6th largest milled rice exporter in the world" Thanks for that info, but did you also know that $11 billions was said to have been traded according to your CPP Goverment offical. Yet, your CPP government cant even afford to pay for their part of the cost in ECCC. (Kingdom of Wonder)

"I’m not sure what your point is..yet you’ve defended Mark just to attack the government!" "

-My point is, education is the key. but why open books when you can "buy" education. How many PhD does the current CPP leaders hold? How often do they brag about their PhD?

-I defend him because you choose the ignore the facts stated in his articles, instead of looking at the underlying issues you blindly accept the dictator's ruling. Why not try to dispute the facts in his blog?

You can defend the government all you want, but the more you talk the more you bite your nails. get my drift..

Who are we kidding here?? the situation is pretty dired, and it could very well be a cultural consequences, and not political, because second and third oversea Khmers are still lagging behind others even Latino (except for blacks). The good thing is that it is reversable and must be painstakingly promoted and implemented on all fronts.

"Rebuilding from decades of civil war, Cambodia has seen rapid progress in the economic and human resource areas. The country has had one of the best economic records in Asia, with economic growth growing an average 6.0% for the last 10 years. Strong textiles, agriculture, construction, garments, and tourism sectors led to foreign investments and international trade.[7] In 2005, oil and natural gas deposits were found beneath Cambodia's territorial waters, and once commercial extraction begins in 2013, the oil revenues could profoundly affect Cambodia's economy.[8]"

It is too funny to read the article, and especailly the comment about the photo of the cow. Mark is not going to hurt my feeling. I remember the japenese said the Americans was the lazier country in the world. I found that to be funny too. I am the man who work two full time jobs, but both of my bosses say that I am too lazy to work on weekend. It is too funny to hear that. I love funny article.

You are a complete idiot if you think Mark was making a political statement in his blogs. From your articles, you’re NO better than Hun Sen and the CPP, supporting the attack on the people because of your political affiliation!
Social and political issues are separate but tangible issues, I bet you can’t differentiate between them!
The governemt is directly responsible to improve the social aspects of the people, and I have NEVER defended the government’s records on this. That is why I am no longer lives in Cambodia, you dumb ass!

1. “Lets not make this a political attack”

Thus far, it is YOU that have turned everything into political attacks, stop being a hypocrite!

2. “Because I agree with his points, here it is again.
-Mark is generalizing when he mentioned that Cambodia is the laziest nation in the world, but are the facts wrong.”

What facts? Mark has never provided actual facts to substantiate his accusations, he merely use a few subjective photos with negative descriptions to back his arguments. As for your facts, I have not disputed the figures even though I have my doubts.
My points all along was that corruptions, crime rate, unemployment, and other social issues are the government’s responsibility and NOT the peoples. Yet you’ve defended Mark’s attack on the people when you know full well that it is the government’s fault.

3. “If i am Cambodian i should know that?? Are you saying that all Cambodians have access and knowledge of the detailed information as stated above and are aware of your CPP propaganda? You make it sound like Cambodia (Kingdom of Wonder)is the most advanced nation in the world..”

DON’T put words in my mouth, you moron! If you have been to Cambodia and speak to the locals, even the poor uneducated will tell you what corruption is like in Cambodia, only a fool like you (despite being educated in a western country) relied on Mark’s so-called facts.
You are worse than Mark for thinking that Cambodian who lacks education don’t know what is happening in Cambodia; most of them are more aware and probably smarter than the tiny pig’s brain of yours.

4. “I defend him because you choose to ignore the facts stated in his articles, instead of looking at the underlying issues you blindly accept the dictator's ruling. Why not try to dispute the facts in his blog?”

The underlying issue here is the government are to blame and not the people. By defending Mark’s so-called facts, you’re saying that corruptions, unemployment, and other social issues are the fault of the people, and not the government.
Why don’t you do yourself a favor by getting an understanding of Mark’s articles, than come back to read my point by point rebuttals to see the logic.

P.S. God save Cambodia, if people like you runs the country!

Why is the article so negative? There aren't any even slightly positive statements.
