PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Cambodia's Constitutional Council has denied on legal grounds the opposition Sam Rainsy Party’s complaint alleging that it was prevented from campaigning in Kompong Chhnang province ahead of the last month's Senate elections, sources said Friday.
The hearing, chaired by Ek Sam Ol, included Sam Rainsy Party representatives and National Election Committee members.
Ek Sam Ol said the verdict was final and made in accordance with the constitution.
“It was an acceptable verdict,” said Mean Sithy, a member of National Election Committee.
But SRP representative Hing Yoeun said it was an "unfair decision" since the law muzzled the opposition while allowing the ruling party to campaign freely.
