Deum Ampil reports that Cambodian and Thai soldiers had exchanged gunfire yesterday near Anlong Veng in Oudor Meanchey province. There are no reports of any casualty yet of either side.
The clash happened while Thai troops patrolled inside Cambodian border near Choam Sa-Ngam district. After the brief clash, Thai troops withdrew back into Thai territory and their commander told Cambodian troops that they have strayed into Cambodian territory by accident.
News of armed clash happened at a time when Thai ultra-nationalists are protesting in Bangkok to demand that Thai troops evict Cambodian soldiers and civilians out of the 4.6 square kilometres area near Preah Vihear temple which was claimed by Thailand in 24 hours.
Gen. Srey Doek said the clash in Choam Sa-Ngam did not affect the situation in Preah Vihear area, where both sides claimed the situation there is calm and under control.
