PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- 83 civil organizations have issued a joint statement, calling on the Cambodian government to renew the visa for environmental activist Alex Gonzalez-Davidson.
Alex's visa expires today, so that he will leave or be deported from the country.
"We urge the Royal Government of Cambodia, especially Ministry of Interior to extend the visa for Alex, deputy director of Mother Nature and Spaniard environmental activist to enable him to continue his stay in Cambodia and join activities to preserve and protect natural resources at Areng Valley," the groups said in the statement on Thursday.
"Alex is a foreigner that is participating in an activity to actively protect natural resources in Cambodia, and his work has been recognized and supported by national and international civil society, youth, citizens both in the country and abroad, especially Areng community."
