PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Angkor Wat temple, one of the world heritage sites, earned over $7 million dollars from ticket sales in January 2015, a 5.12 percent decrease over the same period last year, Apsara National Authority said in a press release on Tuesday.
250,256 tourists bought tickets to visit Angkor Wat in January 2015, Apsara National Authority, which is in charge of the protection and management of the site, said.
The data of numbers of visitors and revenue from Angkor Wat was released after Son Chhay, vice chairman of the National Assembly's commission on economy, finance, banking and auditing, claimed recently that he found irregularities in ticket sales and revenue from Angkor Wat, and demanded Apsara Authority to release secret data.
Last year, the country welcomed 4.5 million foreign visitors and earned $3 billions.
