PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) on Wednesday has demanded for unconditional release of its senior official, land activists and Buddhist monks.
In a statement, the CNRP said "on November 11, senior CNRP official, Meach Sovannara, land activists and monks have been detained by authority led by CPP-led government that used court system which is not full independent and neutral."
"The CNRP condemns such activity and demands halt to any kinds of threat activities on citizens."
Meach Sovannara, head of CNRP's information and media department, was arrested on Monday while he was in his car, and immediately sent to a police station.
He is now being detained at Prey Sar prison after Tuesday hearing where he has been charged with incitement, intentional violence.
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on the same day charged seven land activists including prominent leader Tep Vanny with violation of traffic law by blocking a public road and sentenced each to one year in prison.
