CCHR Legal Analysis - Three Laws Relating to the Judiciary

Dear friends and partners,

The Cambodian Center for Human Rights ("CCHR") releases today - 17 June 2014 - the English translation of the legal analysis of the recently adopted three judicial reform laws, namely the Law on the Organization and Functioning of the Supreme Council of the Magistracy, the Law on the Statute of Judges and Prosecutors, and the Law on the Organization and Functioning of the Courts. The analysis includes opinions from concerned civil society organizations, and donor countries regarding the erosion of the independence of the judiciary that these three laws represent.

The Khmer version was released on 16 May 2014 ahead of the adoption of the draft laws by the National Assembly and the Senate. According to the Constitution, the three laws will now have to be reviewed by the Constitutional Council.

An English translation of the three draft laws is available at sithi.org

For more information, please contact CCHR Trial Monitoring Project Coordinator Piseth Duch via telephone at +855 (0) 1271 2371 or e-mail at duchpiseth@cchrcambodia.org

Please also find attached in PDF format both the Khmer and English versions of the legal analysis.

Kind regards,
CCHR
