PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party today agreed to pave the way for the creation of a law on financing of political parties.
Working groups from the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party met today at the Senate to resume talks on election reforms and other issues.
The officials of the CPP include Bin Chhin, Cheam Yeap, Chheang Von, Sik Bunhok, Kruoch Sam An and Pen Panha, while Son Chhay, Yim Sovan, Koy Bunroeun, Yem Punharith, Eng Chhai Ieng and Mao Monivan are the CNRP representatives.
The working groups of CPP and CNRP issued a joint statement after the meeting.
The statement said the joint committee for the election reforms has agreed on the creation of law on financing of political parties.
The statement added that the committee also agreed on the preparation for the voters’ registration and the lists of the voters in order to ensure the voting right of every citizen. The committee also agreed on a number of other reforms such as the reform of the election committee, mechanisms to solve out the electoral disputes and the media and means for the information dissemination for the political parties.
