Cambodia's Opposition Leader Sam Rainsy (pictured) has agreed to an
offer of talks from Prime Minister Hun Sen to discuss claims of voting
irregularities.
After suffering the worst election result in 15
years, the Prime Minister Hun Sen has extended an olive branch to the
opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party, which has rejected the
ruling party's results.
He also says he'd welcome an investigation into alleged voting irregularities, which has been demanded by the opposition.
Hun
Sen's offer comes as as the opposition CNRP claimed that it had won
Sunday's general election with a narrow margin of 63 out of 123 seats.
On election night, the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) announced it had won 68 seats to the opposition's 55.
Hun
Sen has called on the opposition leader Sam Rainsy to compromise and to
attend his proposed talks, which would look at forming a new
parliament.
"I wish to stress that it does not matter which
political party won the election - the important thing is that our
nation won," he said.
"I have told three of my senior party
members to negotiate with Sam Rainsy and I hope that the talks process
will go well, but if needs be I will talk to Sam Rainsy by myself."
Sam Rainsy has told Radio Australia's program he'll attend the talks, but maintains his party won the poll, not Hun Sen's.
"We accept the dialogue, but the objective is to establish and expose the truth - nothing less," he said.
"We
can move forward only once the truth is recognised by everybody, and
the truth is that the ruling party, after ruling Cambodia for 34 years,
has lost this election and there is a democratic change underway in
Cambodia."
Hun Sen also says he's open to the idea of a
multilateral inquiry into the election led by the countryâs election
commission in order to show transparency and to come to a resolution
that everyone can accept.
Sam Rainsy says the Opposition wants the international community and the United Nations to oversee the inquiry.
"Now
that the ruling party accepts to join in this committee to investigate,
so we are ready, we'll abide by any conclusion by the investigation
committee," he said.
"We would expect the ruling party to make that same commitment."

Hun sen, the CPP officials and the NEC are already aware of the irregularities, CNRP don't need to ask them to help into investigation because they will just going to brush it off as it never even happened. Hun sen and the NEC will not even look at the evidences that the CNRP collected just like the NEC and the CPP in the past never accept or look at recommendations from the UN special envoy recommended to the NEC to reform which never been bothered. Hun sen on the other hand had even cursed and attack mr. Sury Subedi's birth country.
CNRP, the only real resolution to fixing all the irregularities and find freedom and justice for khmer is to bring in the United Nations.
The NEC and Hun Sen will not accept the irregularities findings from the opposition because hun sen can not give freedom and justice to the people of Cambodia.
Both the CPP & NEC have never served our nation, exactly. And yet, this current government could only serve to a foreign country where it was the eastern part of our country.
Does not ever trust on the (Hun Sen) anymore since he was always creating and cheating his entire mean by the CPP’s master-mind and, is to be sure all Khmers were kept fighting among Khmer so that they could control and take the whole Cambodia, relatively.
For instance, The Funcinpec party at that time was leading the country by the prince Norodom Ranarith and then after Nhiek Bun Chhay taken charge on its, unluckily, today has only one seat been working in the parliament that because of the CPP instigation into it’s as with their slogan as a rusty metal.
As the Cpp’s regime, Hun Sen is the puppet to Han Noi alone, it never wanted Khmer to have a stability of politics views of working with the opposition party is none, but for himself to lead the country for some over 28 years even though Cambodia had accompanied with the Paris Peace Agreement in 1991. Besides, two of the UN’s rapporteurs (Mr. Aya guy and Mr. Sorya P Subedi, have been criticized by Hun Sen so bad.
Here is my small opinion to CNRP’s leadership. Please do not make all Khmer citizen false hope on you because when you accept talking with Hun Sen before you have an officially claimed the victory holding in the hands of the CNRP first.
On the other hands, while the U.S. and the European Union was backing up on the Cambodian National Party (CNRP) so then we must take these kinds of action seriously to standing firmly with them first, otherwise.
Hun sen will kill the protesters, Cambodian get ready to sacrifice for our nation, this our last hope to rescue our children once for all. Do not let this unity be divided, half a million will die before the UN or the NATO will deploy their troops. Our motherland is calling upon all khmer to stand up and ready to sacrifice for our national last call.
If we allow hun sen to serve another 5 years term, ththere will be at least 4 more Vietnamese with cambodian identification cards and ready to vote in the next parliamentary election and cambodian will certainly lose a UN monitor election because khmer will become the minority.
4 millions more Vietnamese with cambodian identification cards.
I think Hun Sen will not dare to kill the protesters, he just try to scare them. But when the time come that the people will take to the street, Hun sen will soften his attitude further and will more concessions to the opposition.
My Dearest global Khmer ...
After reading all credible comments...definitely CNRP needs the assistance of UN back up.The CPP will never acknowledge their election lost.We will need to protest nationally/internationally.If we don't start now.the world will not know our cause ...CNRP has khmer supporters globally ... i personally don't want my native Cambodia to be vietnamisation......
