China provides 4 container scanners to Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 19, 2013 (Xinhua) -- The government of China on Monday delivered four units of container scanning machines to Cambodia for using at international border checkpoints.

Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo signed to provide the scanners to Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Keat Chhon at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Keat Chhon said the four container scanning machines, totally costing 13.8 million U.S. dollars, are China's grant aid to Cambodia under the framework of economic and technical cooperation.

He said it was the third time that China has provided such scanners to Cambodia. The first time was in 2006 with one scanner and the second time was in 2012 with 17 scanners. "These container scanning machines are very important to strengthen security and safety at international checkpoints and to facilitate trades between Cambodia and foreign countries,"he said. "The provision of these scanners truly reflects the spirit of friendship and high attention from the government of China to Cambodia."

Bu said China hoped that the scanners would contribute to strengthening Cambodia's capacity in checking at international border checkpoints.

"China will continue to assist Cambodia in economic development and poverty reduction," she said.

According to Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance, China has provided a total of 2.85 billion U.S. dollars to Cambodia since 1992. Of the figures, 235 million U.S. dollars are grant aid, 163 million U.S. dollars are non-interest loan and the rest are concessional loan.

China will continue to expand their economic development and will increase poverty and suffering to Cambodian people by renting thousands of thousands hectares of land from corrupted Cambodian government. China expects to get at least ten dollars back for every dollar China gives to Cambodia.
