Lankan gets Cambodia’s National Award


United Nations Industrial Organization, Vienna, Director Dr Lalith Goonatilleke received the National Award of Cambodia offered by the Cambodian King for exceptional services by a person towards Cambodia's economic development
The National Award of Cambodia offered by the Cambodian King for exceptional services by a person towards Cambodia's economic development was awarded to Sri Lankan Dr Lalith Goonatilleke, Director of the United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO) Vienna.
Dr Goonatilleke has contributed to develop Cambodia's industrial sector by obtaining international accreditation to most of the industries in Cambodia.
He is also responsible for drafting the country's industrial policy for over a decade.
Dr Goonatilleke through UNIDO helped set up the metro logical laboratory in Phnom Penh. The Rubber Research Institute of Cambodia also received ISO 17025 accreditation thanks to Dr Goonatilleke's efforts.
In recognition of this service, the Cambodian King awarded the National award along with the Mahasena Gold medal to him at a ceremony in Cambodia in April.
