PHNOM PENH, 10 January 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) - The Cambodian Center for Human Rights
announced Thursday a campaign to support jailed radio station owner Mam
Sonando.
Ou Virak, the center's president, said the campaign involved a postcard competition to mark Mam Sonando's detention for six months.
"People can write messages of encouragement on postcards to Mr Mam Sonando and then send them to CCHR. We will read the messages on live radio programs," a statement said.
The statement said the center would select the top three postcards on January 31 to print and deliver to supporters of the Beehive Radio owner.
Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Mam Sonando to 20 years last month for his role in an attempted secession in Kratie in May. He was also fined 10 million riel.
Bun Ratha, a land rights advocate, who went into hiding after being accused of helping to organize the revolt, was sentenced in absentia to 30 years. Two others, Sok Tong and Bun Chhay, were sentenced in absentia to 15 years.
The European Union, France and the United States have condemned the ruling along with local and international non-governmental organizations.
