PHNOM PENH, 10 September 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Vietnamese rice exports hit a record
928,000 tonnes in August with "rather huge" shipments to Cambodia and
China, Sai Gon Giai Phong reported.
The newspaper said exports to Cambodia were via three border crossings with daily shipments of as much as 5,500 tonnes between Vietnam's An Giang province and Takeo province in Cambodia.
Nguyen Van Tien, director of Angimex Company, was quoted as saying that this year's rice production in Cambodia is estimated to be 10-15 percent lower than last year.
The report on Sunday said that Thai buyers were willing to pay up to 9,000 dong (1,800 riel) a kilogram for rice imported from Vietnam.
