Cambodia, Thailand to clear mines along Preah Vihear border

PHNOM PENH, 28 June 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - The Cambodia-Thai Working Group agreed Thursday to clear mines along the border around Preah Vihear Temple during the third week of July, a senior Cambodian official said.

Neang Phat (pictured), secretary of state at Ministry of National Defense, said the two sides would discuss withdrawing troops and replacing them with observers a month later. He said they also agreed to maintain peace along the border.

The working group's second meeting, co-chaired by General Neang Phat and General Worapong Sanganetra of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, followed a first meeting in Bangkok in April.

It was scheduled to last one day only but continued until midnight Wednesday and was extended into Thursday after the two sides failed to agree on the troop withdrawal.

Another Thai trict, after Cambodian clear all mines than Thai launch artillery to Cambodia and invade Cambodia again. This is Long Vek strategy after Thai shoot Prak Doung into bamboo forest then Khmer cut all bamboo then Thai came back took all Khmer sacred book to Siam.

Agree with you. I do not trust A KA PEK. We better strengthen our forces in those areas just in case we have to use forces to force them out after ICJ. Those mines protect our boys at Preah Vihear areas. Mines are good protection for low budgets military. WHY DOES MINES NEED TO BE CLEAR IN ORDER FOR A KA PEK TO WITHDRAW ? I think and trust Khmer commanders are smarter than that and they know the Siam millions tricks.
