The Cambodia Herald

Former Khmer Rouge prison chief Kaing Guech Eav said Thursday that Pol Pot's deputy Nuon Chea ordered all prisoners killed on January 3, 1979, four days before Phnom Penh was liberated.

"When I arrived at Toul Sleng prison, I held a meeting with friend Hu to adopt the ordered task," he told the Khmer Rouge tribunal.

The former prison chief, also known as Duch, also said that Nuon Chea ordered him to keep interrogating the prisoners.

Duch, who is serving a life sentence for crimes against humanity, was testifying in the trial of Nuon Chea, also known as Brother Number Two, former foreign minister Ieng Sary and former head of state Khieu Samphan.
