Re: Kristin Lynch’s article on Cambodia. I encourage Lynch to research her history about our country’s involvement in Cambodia. From spring to fall of 1973 air strikes against the Khmer Rouge were a daily staple of ours and other air force units.
At the time we were not allowed to discuss these missions but recent documents released from this period should help Lynch with her history. While we only slowed the advance of the Khmer Rouge on Phnom Penh as it turns out, we did not support the Khmer Rouge. Politics, as they are, changed U.S. support or involvement in Cambodia and the rest of South East Asia.
It is also important to note the entire world became aware of the atrocities and stood by as the Khmer Rouge slaughtered millions of their countrymen.

To James Gaffney:
There were the Vietnamese secret agents (Vietcong and Vietminh) hiding among the Khmer Rouges and jungle of Cambodia and remote area, along with Khmer kids and young men were sent to Vietnam for training and they became brainwashed by the Vietnamese master-minded leaders in Vietnam and some of Khmer kids and young men were trained in remote area and in jungles. You have already seen the pictures of young Khmer kids dressed up like Khmer Rouges soldiers.
So, you have not heard of the Vietnamese secret agents inside the Khmer Rouges and Khmer kids and young men during the Killing Fields. The words "Angkar Leur = High Up Organization" were came out as I had heard during the evacuation and marches across the country of Cambodia. In the Vietnamese language, Angkar Leur is Cap Tren that have used very often in South Vietnam according to Khmer people who had been through the Killing Fields.
Angkar Leur has been created in Hanoi, Vietnam and spread out to confused Khmer people during the Killing Fields. Angkar Leur was very scary to Khmer people. If you dared to stare or look at their faces or say a word, you would going to be punished, killed or sent to the labor camp. Many Khmer/Cambodian children were separated from their parents and sent to Children Camp or Children Team during the Killing Fields. They were trained to hate their own parents. Some Khmer Rouges were not real Khmer/Cambodian, but they were the suspects from Vietnam, Vietnamese secret agents (who could speak and write Khmer language very well, dressing up like Khmer Rouges).
It is a very long story and complicated. There will be the book coming out pretty soon the Khmer victim who passed away and wrote several pages about what happened to the Killing Fields and plus our bitter experiences in the Killing Fields.
We encourage you to find more evidences and the intelligent Khmer people who had been through the Killing Fields. Some of victims and survivors of Killing Fields had no ideas the Vietnamese master-minded leaders in Hanoi, Vietnam who were behind of the Killing Fields and had the secret plans to swallow Cambodia entirely after the Khmer people were gone.
Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouges inner circles who were with the Vietnamese secret agents or cadres. Also, Pol Pot was toppled or trapped by the Vietnamese secret agents there who looked like Khmer Rouges. Pol Pot had fought against the South Vietnam to take Lower Cambodia (Khmer/Kampuchea Krom) that is South Vietnam with city of Saigon/Ho Chi Minh (former Khmer/Cambodian city called Prey Nokor) and there were 18 millions of Khmer/Cambodian people living there in the past and until today.
Suggest you to find out by doing the investigation.
