Published: 09-Mar-12 PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Culture Minister Him Chhem said Friday he opposed a project to build an Angkor Wat replica in India.
“The world has Angkor Wat only in Cambodia, which has been registered as a World Heritage site since 1992,” he said.
Him Chhem said the project would affect the reputation of Angkor as well as the friendship between Cambodia and India.
The Indian project is being undertaken by Bihar Mahavir Mandir Trust, a local non-governmental organization.
The Ankor Wat temple (pictured) was built by Suryavarman II in the late eleventh century.
