PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Opposition Sam Rainsy Party spokesman Yin Sovan said Monday that party lawyer Choung Chou Ngy, accused of helping a prisoner escape from Kandal provincial prison, could not be charged as he was trying help some whose rights had been violated and that the case against him was therefore political.
Speaking to reporters with the accused party lawyer, Yin Sovan asserted that his prosecution would have a negative impact on foreign investment.
Referring to a delay in the lawyer's hearing at the Kandal Provincial Court earlier Monday, Cambodian Bar Association spokesman Yim Savy said seven lawyers missed it since they had not been summoned to defend Choung Chou Ngy.
Choung Chou Ngy asked the court to to remove the complaint against him, pleading innocence.
