PHNOM PENH, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Senate President Chea Sim's former protocol chief Pheng Kunthea Borey (pictured) on Tuesday was convicted of fraud and was sentenced to four years in jail, according to the verdict of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
Borey's three accomplices: two Chea Sim's former advisors, Police Lt. Gen. Chan Kosal and Lt. Gen. Ponlork Ho, were sentenced to four years each in jail, and Khieu Bora, Chea Sim's former cabinet member, was sentenced to three years in jail.
The four have been charged stemming from allegations they engineered scams involving hundreds of millions of dollars from more than 50 foreign companies in almost a decade-long scam spree in which they allegedly charged companies for getting Chea Sim's signature for humanitarian and development projects, some of which were fake.
