PM: Cambodia To Have 2.5 Million Tons of Milled Rice This Year
AKP Phnom Penh, December 28, 2011 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen (pictured) this morning said this year Cambodia expected to get some 4 million tons of surplus paddy rice or 2.5 million tons of milled rice.
Despite recent devastating floods, we still have 4 million tons of paddy rice surplus or 2.5 million tons of milled rice for export, the Cambodian premier said at the graduation ceremony of Vanda Institute.
According to a report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries last week, the country’s total rice yield for the 2011-2012 rice cultivation would be around 8.30 million tons with an average output of 3.074 tons per hectare.
Cambodia needs over 2.1 million tons of milled rice a year for local consumption, it said.
