Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the only way to stand up to the “acquisitiveness” of hegemonic powers is to promote cooperation among independent nations.
The Iranian chief executive made the comment in separate meetings with the new Cambodian and Uruguayan ambassadors to Tehran as they submitted their credentials to the Iranian president.
In both meetings, President Ahmadinejad underlined that Iran, Cambodia and Uruguay have common ground on a whole range of issues.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, Cambodia and Uruguay have many commonalities as all of them want peace, justice, friendship and progress for all nations, and there is no negative background in our cooperation,” he said.
The president further emphasized the importance of Iran's closer cooperation with Cambodia and Uruguay.
“The Iranian, Cambodian and Uruguayan nations are hardworking, and there is no limit to the expansion of their relations. All that has to be done is to well tap into the [existing] potential,” he explained.
President Ahmadinejad underlined that hegemonic powers wouldn't like to see independent nations make progress, saying independent states need to join hands to establish global peace and a just world order to help spur their own development.
For her part, the top Cambodian diplomat termed Iran a political and economic heavyweight, and called for further expansion of economic cooperation as well as Iran's investment in her country's oil and gas sector.
The new Uruguayan ambassador also described relations between his country and Iran as positive, and added there is huge potential for the enhancement of reciprocal ties.
