Fighting between Cambodian and Thai troops that started in Ta Krabey and Ta Moan temples and Kork Morn village on 22nd April had continued into 4th day.

-At 1:45 p.m today, Monday 25th April, a Cambodian military officer told DAP News that Thai troops had launched an attack on Cambodian troops after a Thai fighter jet had flown over Kork Morn village in Banteay Ampil district in Oddar Meanchey province. He said that Thai troops had used heavy weapons against Cambodian troops and fired 6 rounds of artillery rockets into Kork Morn.

He said that Thai commanders had met in border areas in Dongrak district in Surin province and when they knew that Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya had paid a surprise visit to the area, they prevented him from visiting the areas using the pretext that it is not safe. But the truth is Thai commanders are not happy with his dealing with Cambodia over border issue and did not want to see him visiting troops in the area.

-CEN reported that today the Thais started to attack from the air, with 2 rockets fired from a fighter jet hitting a Cambodian position at Phnom Komprea west of Ta Moan temple. It reported that many rockets fired from Thai fighter jet had landed in Cambodian territory. It reported that at 9 a.m this morning, a Thai fighter jet flew in reconnaissance over the area once before. However, other sources said the rockets were not launched from an aircraft, but the sounds of explosions from the air were just the sounds of echoes only. However, it reported that two Thai fighter jets had violated Cambodian airspace by flying 500 metres deep inside Cambodian territory.

-Cambodian Defence Ministry issued a statement saying that during the fighting yesterday, Sunday 24th April, Thai troops had fired 1,000 rounds of artillery rockets into Cambodian territory and Cambodian positions at Ta Krabey and Ta Moan temples in an attempt to seize the temple. It said the shelling had damaged the temples, but did not caused deaths or injuries to soldiers or civilians. It said Thai troops had fired many rockets into Kork Morn and Thmor Daun villages. It also accused Thai troops of targetting civilians by firing 300 rounds of artillery rockets into villages located 20km deep inside Cambodian territory, causing 4,300 families, or equivalent to more than 17,000 people, to flee their homes, many of them children and women. On top of this, one school building and 10 homes were destroyed the rockets.

-At 14:10 p.m, one Thai soldier was killed by a Cambodian grenade.

-Up to today, there 5,249 Cambodian families, equivalent to 21,893 people had been displaced by the fighting.

-Thai Arm Chief, Gen. Prayuth Chan-Ocha, said Thailand would only allow the deployment of foreign observers a long Cambodian-Thai border if Cambodia agree to withdraw troops and civilians from "overlapping areas".

Border clash continues for 4th day

A clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers continued for the fourth day on Monday morning but no casualties were reported.

Field reports said the clash took place at about 10am around Ta Muen Thom temple near Ban Nong Khan Na in tambon Ta Miang of Surin's Phanom Dong Rak district.

Noises of rifle, machine gune and mortar were heard continually from the area. No more artillery shells landed on the Thai soil.

The public relations centre of the 2nd Army's forward headquarters on Monday concluded that five soldiers had been killed and 35 wounded. The numbers of evacuees were 25,000 in Surin and 4,500 in Buri Ram.

On Monday morning, Interior Minister Chavarat Charnnukul visited an evacuation centre at the self-help settlement of Prasat district while Interior Minister Kasit Piromya visited another evacuation centre at Ban Khok Klang in Surin's Phanom Dong Rak district.

Lt-Gen Tawatchai Samutsakhon, the 2nd Army commander, said soldiers have been on full alert to protect national sovereignty and the people's lives when attacked.

He said the Thai military action has been limited to military targets, unlike the Cambodian side that fired 10 artillery rounds on Ban Nong Khan Na in Phanom Dong Rak district on Sunday.

A sporadic firefight with rifles and mortars occurred between Ta Kwai and Ta Muen Thom temples until about 11pm on Sunday night, he said.

Buy S300 we can drop their fighter jets

S-300 wouldn't be enough alone couple with more advance systems such as the Tor-M1 SPAA, ZSU-24, PGZ-04A SPAAMGS. now that's a good combination. SAM missile system is almost defenseless with out other AA giving support to the main launchers.
Hopefully Cambodia can purchase these systems. But military reforms have been slow.

yer ur rite about tht, military reform is slow like i was saying. i just hope the Khmer government stop its negligence of the military, who cares wht others countries think, the military needs new weapons, we would be upset if these men die needlessly when there is new and upgradable equipment available to increase the effectiveness and life of the soldier.

i don't see thailand bullying cambodia any time sooner because we are weak and poor. to stop a bully is to stand to him. in order to stand up to a bully is to build up your strength. equip ourselves with modern weapons.
