52 Thai ultra-nationalist groups have changed their plans from rallying in front of the Thai parliament to marching to Preah Vihear temple to protest against Cambodia drafted management plan of the Preah Vihear areas, reports Cambodian Express News.

The groups planned to stage a protest in front of the Thai parliament in Bangkok tomorrow, Saturday the 7th of August, with some groups travelling to Bangkok from Phuket already.

In response to the Thai planned protests, Mr. Tith Sothea, spokesman for the Cambodian Press and Quick Reaction Unit, said those Thai protesters have the rights to protest inside Thai territory, but if they cross the border, regardless of whether they are soldiers or unarmed civilians, they must be mindful that Cambodian frontline troops had already been ordered to use self-defence rights to defend Cambodian territory.

However, Mr. Tith Sothea said Thai commander from Thai Military Region Two had promised that Thai troops will contain the Thai protesters not to cross into Cambodian territory.

Mr. Yim Pim, commander of Battalion 8, said the military situations at Preah Vihear are still normal. Gen. Chea Dara, Commander of Preah Vihear operations, said on 29th, 30th and 31st July, the Thai military had reinforced 2,000 to the areas around Preah Vihear temple. Gen. Srey Doek, commander of the Preah Vihear Command, said those 2,000 Thai troops had not been withdrawn yet. However, they said Cambodian troops have the capacity to respond to any encroachments from either civilians or armed troops.

At the same time, everyday.com reported that the Thai military is planning to stage a military drill along the border opposite Anlong Veng district in Oddar Meanchey province from Monday 9th to Monday 17th August.

Cambodian military commanders said the Thai military drill taking place so close to the border with Cambodia is intended to intimidate Cambodian troops, but he said the Cambodian military is not concerned as long as those Thai troops do not cross or fire artillery into Cambodian territory.
