Family killed in Banteay Meanchey crash

A man, a woman and their two children travelling on a motorbike were killed in a grisly traffic accident in Banteay Meanchey province’s O’Chrou district after being struck by two cars travelling on National Road 5 on Friday night.

Un Soeng, Koup commune police chief, said yesterday that Nov Sothy, 38, his wife Chheng Sinai, 31, and their two children, Nov Sinich, 6, and Nov Sinin, 4, were on their way to visit relatives in Kampong Thom when they were hit by the two vehicles.

“Because it was dark and the street was not busy, those two vehicles were able to escape,” Soeng said.

O’Chrou district police chief Eh Chheng Sokha said investigators at the scene had determined that the motorbike carrying the family had been struck from behind by the first vehicle, and that the four had been run over by the second after being thrown to the pavement.

Chheng Sinuon, sister of Chheng Sinai, said the couple had two other sons that the couple had left in her care before their trip.

“I really feel sorry for my nephews since they won’t have parents anymore,” she said
