PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Mr. Tang Sunlay has been appointed by the King as President of Phnom Penh Municipal Court, replacing Mr. Ang Mealaktei, who was transferred to work at Ministry of Interior.
The appointment ceremony was held Wednesday and was presided over by Ang Vong Vathana, Justice Minister, Dith Monty, President of the Supreme Court, Om Yingtieng, President of Anti-Corruption Unit, Chea Leang, Persecutor General of the Supreme Court as well as Pa Socheavong, governor of Phnom Penh City.
"I would like to thank the King, President of the Supreme Council of Magistracy and Royal Government that provide trust to me to fulfill the position as President of Phnom Penh Municipal Court," he said at the ceremony.
Sunlay went on "I am committed to being honest to the nation, respecting Constitution, laws and protecting freedom of citizens as well as respecting professionalism, expanding, boosting and encouraging court officials to improve their ability, and cooperating with related institutions and authorities."
He also requested authorities and related ministries to work together to increase transparency and trust for citizens.
His appointment came just a day after Prime Minister Hun Sen strongly reacted to measure of Phnom Penh Municipal Court, and called on the Supreme Council of Magistracy to take action against Phnom Penh judge who was responsible for releasing parents of Thong Sarath.
