PHNOM PENH (Kyodo)– A Japanese woman suffered minor injuries Friday afternoon in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, after she resisted an attempt to rob her of her purse, a police officer said.
Two unidentified men riding on a motorbike near the Olympic Stadium in a central part of the city fired a shot that struck the right side of her hip, the Phnom Penh municipal police chief said.
The victim and her husband, a Vietnamese national, had stepped off a city bus and were waiting to catch a tuk-tuk motorcycle taxi to their guest house, he said. The couple arrived in Cambodia on Friday, according to police.
She was taken to a hospital but was discharged soon after as her condition was not serious.
Police said they are investigating the case and looking for the perpetrators.
