A China-invested Apsara International Air is going to launch flights in Cambodia later this month after it has received an air operator certificate from the Cambodia's Civil Aviation, the company's chief executive officer Zhang Xiaopeng said Monday.
"Apsara International Air is to commence operation of scheduled flights between Phnom Penh City and Siem Reap City by the end of this month, and an international route between Cambodia and China by the end of December 2014, utilizing an Airbus-320 aircraft," he said while receiving an air operator certificate from the Cambodia 's Civil Aviation, adding that the airlines would extend wings to Japan, South Korea and Russia within five years.
He said the airlines is dedicated to serve Cambodian tourism market and to contribute to attracting more foreign business people to Cambodia, particularly Chinese investors.
Chea Aun, under-secretary of state at the Cambodia's Civil Aviation, said with the air operator certificate, the Apsara International Air has officially the identity of a Cambodian airlines.
"I'd like to recommend the company to focus on safety and quality as the top priority so that it will build a long-term reputation and confidence among passengers," he said.
Last month, Cambodia Bayon Airlines, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), officially announced that it would operate its first flights in Cambodia by the end of this year.
Currently, some 27 airlines have been operating domestic and international routes in Cambodia.
