Any move by Australia to resettle refugees in Cambodia would fuel corruption and spark resentment, the country's opposition leader says.
Sam Rainsy told ABC TV on Tuesday the opposition did not support such a move.
It has been speculated that 1000 refugees from Nauru will be settled in Cambodia.
Mr Rainsy said Australian government funding to support asylum seekers would end up in the hands of corrupt officials.
"This will not benefit the Cambodian people in any way. It will benefit only the few elite who run the country," he said.
Mr Rainsy said it was a joke for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison to say asylum seekers could set up their own businesses in Cambodia.
Similarly, Cambodia's education and health systems were poor.
Mr Rainsy said any provision of services to asylum seekers not available to local people would generate resentment.
"The refugees from Australia would become first-class citizens and the native Cambodians would become second-class citizens. You can imagine that this would create very serious problems - thank you Australia for creating such a problem."

With this kind of statement, you can see Sam Rainsy will never get any political support from Australia. He is very offending and cornering himself to a little corner.

Let me speak for Mr. Hun Sen and Australia government. Australia is facing a dilemma:
_ If they reject the refugees, they will be viewed as cruel.
_ If they accept the refugees, they might unwittingly induce a lot more refugees to flood Australia.
So how can Australia solve this dilemma without looking cruel or bring on more problem later? The solution is simple:
_ Accept the refugees to avoid being labeled as cruel.
_ Send the refugees to undesired place, a terrible country such as Cambodia to deter the future refugees trying to come to Australia.
If the plan works out well, after a few waves of refugees, other will stop coming to Australia, knowing they will be sent to Cambodia.
Mr. Hun Sen is very wise to help out Australia. He earn some hard currency for Cambodia and gain favor with Australian government. If Mr. Hun Sen orders the batons flying on the opposition, would you think the Australian government will protest him or they would stay silent?
The opposition always immediately accuse the CPP for corruption even the money has not been paid yet. I will be frank with you folks: If there is any corruption going on, the money from Australia will reduce the need for land grabbing, forest selling. This money will only help, not harm.
I am a super smart Asian. I view myself as smarter than the entire Khmer race except a few such as Mr. Hun Sen and others. Sam Rainsy is an idiot.
Oh, I did a self-test. I ask myself, "If I were Mr. Hun Sen, what would I do?" Oh man, Mr. Hun Sen always did everything I would have done or even better. No wonder he was honored with so many honorary degrees. So, I will humbly acknowledge that Mr. Hun Sen is much smarter than I am.

According to you Hun Sen is smart because Hun Sen has almost made Cambodia a province of Vietnam.
