PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Police and security forces on Tuesday dispersed protesters rallying in front of the Vietnamese embassy.

The clash broke out  when the security forces clamped down on the protesters including youth, Kampuchea Krom monks, Mam Sonando, director of Beehive Radio, as well as CNRP officials, who were protesting to demand the Vietnamese government apologize over Khmer Krom comments.

Security forces were found to seize iPads and cameras from journalists during the clash.

Last week, Phnom Penh City Hall banned the Federation of Cambodian Intellectuals and Students (FCIS) from protesting at the Vietnamese Embassy, claiming that the rally would affect sovereignty of Vietnam and cause public disorder as well as Cambodia-Vietnamese relations.

But the FCIS maintained its stance to protest to demand Vietname make publicly apology to Cambodian people after Vietnamese spokesman Tran Van Thong claimed that Kampuchea Krom in the southern part of Vietnam belongs to Vietnam for a long time ago even before the French colony.

According to the history, Cambodia lost Kampuchea Krom to Vietnam after its colonial master France detached the land to Vietnam on June 4, 1949.
