Cambodian, Japanese FMs discuss bilateral ties, regional issues

Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Namhong (R) speaks at a joint conference with his visiting Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida.

PHNOM PENH, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong met with his visiting Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Monday morning, discussing ways to deepen bilateral ties and exchanging views on regional issues.
"We agreed on many issues to further enhance bilateral ties and cooperation," Hor Namhong said at a joint press conference after the meeting, showing gratitude to Japan for providing grant and loan to Cambodia.
He said he will sign with Kishida on Monday afternoon to receive 143 million U.S. dollars in grant and loan that Japan provides to Cambodia for socio-economic development.
Kishida said it was his first visit to Cambodia with an aim to deepen bilateral ties in all fields, particularly politics, economics, trade, investment and tourism.
"Japan is looking forward to further promoting friendly relations with Cambodia," he said.
The two ministers also touched on regional issues such as the issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
"For regional issues, Cambodia supports the settlement of issues in the region peacefully, based on international law and non-use of force," Hor Namhong said.
"For the issue of DPRK, we express our concern as the DPRK still continues launching missiles in violation of decisions by the United Nations Security Council," he added.
On the issue of DPRK abducting Japanese citizens, he said Cambodia urges DPRK to settle the problem based on humanity and respect statements by the United Nations Security Council.
Kishida arrived here on Sunday for a 3-day visit.

It is turning out as I predicted. Cambodia has sided with USA-Japan-Vietnam's pact. That's why you will start seeing:
_ Japan coming into Cambodia with aids and investment.
_ China's big projects in Cambodia suddenly got delayed, aids will slow down then gone.

Vietnam will have to step up with investment to replace China.

Meanwhile, in Laos, China and Vietnam are locked-horn in an investment contest to be number 1. Laos' economy as the result is growing a much higher rate than Cambodia. If Vietnam cannot get Japan to join in and help, Vietnam will lose in Laos.
