PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Eleven human rights and land activists were arrested on Tuesday morning while they were trying to present petition to the embassies for the release of people held in recent deadly crackdown. They were released hours later.

The arrestees include Rong Chhun, President of Cambodian Federation Unions, and Cambodian Independent Teachers’ Association, land activists Yorm Bopha, Tep Vanny, Pov Sophea, and other people.

They were arrested while they are trying to bring petitions to the US, French and British embassies, in order to ask for the embassies’ intervention for the release of 23 people who were arrested in police crackdowns which took place on 2 and 3 January.

Long Dimanche, spokesman of the Phnom Penh City Hall, said that they were released after they were questioned and agreed not to hold any illegal protests anymore.
