signs of current Vietnamization in Cambodia |

Queen Ang Mey |
The Vietnamese victory over three wars with Thailand on Cambodian territory (1811-1812, 1831-34, and 1841-45) had maintained Vietnam influence and occupation over Cambodia nearly a half a century, from 1806 to 1848. When King Ang Chan II (r. 1806-1834) died in 1834, there was no heir apparent to the throne, for he had no son but four daughters. Though his brothers Ang Duong and Ang Im immediately laid claim to the throne, the Vietnamese emperor did not approve. Also, Ang Chan's eldest daughter Princess Baen was passed over due to her being sympathetic to Thai and her refusal to marry Emperor Gia Long's son. Finally, Princess Ang Mey was an alternative to her sister, Princess Baen.
In May 1835, Princess Ang Mey was crowned by Vietnamese Emperor Minh Mang; she faced north toward the emperor's letter authorizing her to reign. The ceremony bore no resemblance to traditional Khmer coronation. Then, the emperor provided Queen Mey at least 100 body guards ostensibly to protect her safety. In fact, the body guards were assigned to ensure that she stayed faithful to the emperor and did not defect. On the other hand, a Thai source claimed that the Vietnamese had also tried to persuade Queen Mey to marry the son of emperor Gia Long, but they dropped that proposal when they had learned strong objection from many Khmer noblemen.
Although Vietnam failed to cement its rule through political marriage as it had done with King Chey Chettha II, Vietnamization was enforced in full-scale. According to Khmer and Thai sources, the Vietnamization program affected all aspects of Khmer life. All Khmer women were ordered to wear pyjamas instead of sampots or sarongs, and they had to grow their hair long in Vietnamese style. All market were allowed to sell only Vietnamese food, and Khmer traditional dances had assimilated elements of Vietnamese tradition while government officials had to don Vietnamese ceremonial garbs or fashions. Khmer Wats were destroyed; srok names and Choavay srok were replaced with Vietnamese names and officials. For instance, Phnom Penh was renamed to "Tran Tay" or the Western Commandery--a district or city ruled by the commander, and during that time General Truong Minh Giang was a commander of Vietnamese troops in Cambodia and a governor of Phnom Penh.
According to Professor David Chandler, Emperor Minh Mang sent convicts and prisoners--if kept in jail, would prove useless--to live among Khmer and to teach them lessons. In Minh Mang's words, "The barbaric Khmer have become my children now, and you [Gen. Truong Giang] should teach them our customs, language... teach them to use oxen, to grow more rice, to raise pigs, chicken, ducks... if there is any out-dated custom, repress it." Such an unfeasible Vietnamization had drawn fierce resistances from all levels of Khmer people in the country. Many Khmer Okhna and their followers revolt against Vietnamese authorities. The rebellions had made Emperor Minh Mang suspicious about Queen Ang Mey loyalty, and he demoted the Queen and her sisters. In 1841, they were arrested and sent to Hue. Princess Ang Baen who was suspected of collaboration with the Thai was tortured and thrown into Mekong River, and many other royal family members were imprisoned.
As battles between the Thai and Vietnamese troops around Oudong was in a stalemate, negotiation between the Thai and Vietnamese had reached a compromise, allowing both King Ang Duong backed by Thai and his niece, Queen Ang Mei backed by the Vietnamese to rule the country together as the co-sovereigns. Then King Ang Duong officially succeeded his niece in 1848, but he had to balance of the two patrons by paying tributes to both courts--Bangkok and Hue regularly. Eventually, Cambodia became a joint vassalage of Thai and Vietnamese courts; such a condition had forced King Ang Duong secretly to search for help from European powers.
Ironically, Khmer history always repeated itself; Emperor Minh Mang stripped off Queen Mey title and imprisoned her at Hue in 1841. Then he rearranged her to be the co-rulers with her uncle King Ang Duong backed by Thai in 1844. And look at this interesting parallel story! In 1981, Pen Sovann was sacked by the Vietnamese and imprisoned in Hanoi, and in 1993 Vietnam arranged Hun Sen to be the co-prime minister with Prince Ranaridh before Ranaridh was toppled, and Vietnam solely has controlled Cambodia through its arranged leader, Hun Sen until today. This time was not under the Nguyen Lord dynasty but the Communist Ho Chi Minh dynasty, the most dangerous one.

It is a known historical fact that “Cambodia” never existed prior to the French arrival. The Khmer was on the verge of being eliminated by the Thais, but the Vietnamese came in the nick of time to rescue them, the Khmers were grateful for the assistance and allied with the Vietnamese. However, the French came and evicted the Vietnamese and the Thais from the land and created what is now known as Cambodia. But the French wanted to eliminate all three countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) so they called it Indochina. The Vietnamese fought back ferociously, eventually evicted the French from Indochina and freed all three countries. But under the brutal genocidal Khmer Rouge, Cambodia was once again teetering on the brink of elimination when Vietnam launched a humanitarian mission that liberated Cambodia. For the third times, Vietnam saved Cambodia from being relegated to a mere footnote of history. The modern Cambodia today, its beautiful culture and people, only exists as the result of the great assistance from Vietnam on three consecutive occasions.
2:14 Oh my God!! what planet are you from to tell your story?
Ok, that's good writing. But you need to write in shorter paragraphs.
Vietnam defeated France marked the first time a colonial local defeated a colonial power. It sparked a general revolt around the world. In Algeria, when the local rose up against France, they yelled "Ho Chi Minh, Dien Bien Phu to scare the French."
Khmer folks need to know this. The Siamese folks were into sacking, destroying Khmer. The Vietnamese folks were into absorbing the Khmer. You folks want to remain independent, but you folks must not resorting to killing, murdering like the Siamese folks. It's wrong and that's why Cambodia was shunned by many civilized and powerful country.

This is my observation, last year 2013 when Cambodia was in turmoil, international business was reducing investment into Cambodia. But Vietnam suddenly increased their investment by 250%. Mr. Hun Sen wanted to maintain good statistic for the economy, he must have asked Vietnam to step up investment to replace the loss of international investment.
No businessmen would want to invest in a country where they could suddenly double the minimum wage. It will ruin their profit.
Mr. Hun Sen always have the Vietnamese buddy to call on to help out. Note this, Vietnam is still relatively poor. The investment into Cambodia could have instead be used for investing in Vietnam. But Vietnam must pull its guts out to bail out its ally to gain favor. And Mr. Hun Sen has indicated he is siding with Vietnam by the end of 2013.

You guys are really troublemakers, what on earth you guys are trying to lying to promote your evil, hypocrite, dirty-mined, disgusted history of Yuon/Vietnamese and wanting to fool some readers who don't know anything about your history of Vietnamese thieves and killers.
There are fact-findings and researches to compare to what you posted for readers and the kid who are being brainwashed because of your evil master-minded folks who are so ugly to make up everything. You will be shameful. For evil -Drgunzet- , you enjoy having criminal Hun Sen staying power for his Vietnamese masters in Hanoi so that Vietnamese thieves(ill-intentioned animals in Hanoi) continue to take of Cambodia natural resources and tried to be clever without worrying about the people around the world criticizing about evil Vietnamese nation and people. So, they think like disgusted creatures coming from China where Chinese kicked you, evil Yuon/Dai Viet out.
From my understand queen Ang Mey had survived when king Norodom became a king she left behind at Wang Chas Oudong when king Norodom moved capital to Phnom Penh . By the way speaking Thai and Vietnam during the war of 7o's prince Sirimatak had proposed to invite Thai army to help khmer fighting against communist Vietnam but Lon Nol and his clans turned to South Vietnamese and khmer Mike Force instead. History had proved whenever Vietnam invades khmer Thai always intervened because Thai hated Vietnam and Vietnam hated Thai. The largest Vietnamese community in Thailand is Udonthani province where the strong hold of Thai red shirt.
Cambodia should learn from Vietnames and start reverse this trend. Gotta start somewhere. Vietnam started invading Cham, Kampuchea Krom while they were small. We are small and weak, that does not mean we should not thinking about reversing this unfortunate fortune.
Sihanouk made a mistake for siding with North Vietnam and openly criticizing USA, South Vietnam.
If I were Sihanouk, I would not criticizing anyone. I would demand North Vietnamese to withdraw from my country but I will not do a thing since I did not have any force to fight. Just let them fight, why get involved?
Sihanouk predicts that North Vietnamese will win (and rightfully so), but he miscalculated. One of his subordinate got greedy and toppled him.
The rule of politics is to survive and gives no excuse, play clean, speak with deniability. And most importance of all, do not corner yourself in to a limited partnership. There is no permanent friend or foe, only permanent interest.
-Drgunzet-
Look, you folks are few in number. Cambodia is small. Would you think each of you have to be smart, talented, and tough for Cambodia to succeed?
Why don't you folks compete with me?
Let's test how tough you are. I have an ability to ignore pain. I once pulled out my belt and let a kid to hit me with full strength. And I did not flinch. I fought on the streets with vicious and bloody battles. I am also a superior fighter, once I was the best Karate student in my school.
I am well versed in 40-50 important subjects for mankind. You folks can pick one subjects and I can demonstrate my superiority on this forum.
-Drgunzet-
Drgunzet you super hero wow. You have a super power to ignore pain. You are pedophile when the kid pulled your pants and sucked your dick full strength of course you didnt flinch they were wide open with a smile. You are a joke drgunzet karate in kindergarten does not count. I love it when you give say stupid shit. Its very fun for me to write comebacks. You are probably some little scrawny little kid who didnt get any. So only the gay german people took you in because they love that little tight asian ass or yours
23 January 2014 9:31 pm. Yea that loser is a pedophile, thats why hes got a keen interest in belittling our people. You can see he is so desperate that he will even side with Mike. Noone can understand Mike's broken English. LOLZ
Youn Loser.
-Drgunzet- and Yung Khemara are a very cute couple who love love to eat dog meat. They keep lying that they did not eat dog meat, but of courses, they did in Hanoi several times. Also, they abused dogs and force the dogs (male and female dogs) to have sex to produce more dogs for meats in their daily life.
Oh jeez, they keep lying and lying all the time to prevent themselves and they have created the fake reports, story and history of Vietnamese. They enjoy Hun Sen and Bun Rany (Hun Sen's Yuon wife) having sex in bed, too, reminding them (-Drgunzet- and Yung Khemara) about the dog meat and dog sex in Hanoi.
khmer genes/DNA could use some upgrade by mixing itself with other smarter races or other more intelligent ethnicity... every morning in the khmer news , all i read were stupid people getting drunk and running or driving their vehicles into objects or parked cars/trucks killing themselves or innocent bystanders... then there the thugs who robbed and kill people for drugs money... or the individuals who kill themselves because of '' love '' and i used this term lightly [ by hanging , jumping off bridge etc.. ] it seems like the khmer genes have gone downhill since the abandonment of Angkor ear.
i meant Angkor era ... finger went faster than brain...[abandonment of Angkor ear.]
How do you know that monkey. I never knew you were more than 900 years old. So you have been around since angkor era. Please explain

I think David Chandler was wrong there. According to many historians we were the masters of farming, especially rice, we understood about water management, long before Europeans did. There are a lot of evidences about it such as dikes, ditches and canals that still can be found around Angkor Wat and many more were discovered, through Satellite scanning, by geologists believed to be a complex water management city, which is equivalent to Amsterdam city today. That was over 1,000 years ago.
We were barbaric?
Angkor Wat’s bass relief showed us that our ancestors not just good at farming rice, but we were also brilliant/race master in building. Angkor Wat was the first tallest building in the world ‘at 65 meters high, for hundred of years, long before it was taken over by modern constructions in 19 century. We were also probably the most civilised nation on the planet too, in both in our concept, believe and life style,it took the Frence for very long time to understand the enigmatic smile(half eyes closed) of Bayon, which full of deep love, compassion and understanding . For life style see Apsara’s bass relief ,her dress were made of soft silk and her ornaments were all in gold . Training us to raise chicken and taming cow to farm? Lolz , we were the nation that used horses, elephants to go to battle long before Viet exist.

24 January 2014 8:00 am,
The drunk drivers are most CPP Yuon/Vietnamese officials and folks with criminal Hun Sen (who protected those Yuon/Vietnamese drunk drivers). Do you know who they are? Cheam Yeap is one of those Yuon/Vietnamese CPP drivers. Of courses, he speaks Khmer really well, but he is not Khmer. He is, of courses, Yuon/Vietnamese.
24 January 2014 9:55 am. While we Khmer ruled the world, the Youn were living with black ugly teeth in the province of China. Unfornate for us Khmer, our people were kind and provided them with shelter, took them into Prey Nokor, not long after the ancestor of the Youn killed our people one by one, and eventually took over Prey Nokor.
They have not thanked us, but tried to out Prey Nokor from the world history. To this days, not much people knew about Prey Nokor or the location of former city.
quote :''How do you know that monkey. I never knew you were more than 900 years old. So you have been around since angkor era. Please explain''
no need for further explanation...just from the way your expressed yourself and using personal attack instead of reasoning and thoughtful process to enlighten others, would show the world what kind of upbringing you came from... and whether or not your family has Class in a society....enjoy your misery because hun sen is going nowhere fast.. you and him deserve each other...:)
TRUEKHMER. You are wrong David Chandler is a well known historian he knows khmers more than you and me he is second to George Cedes in a modern history and I admired him a lots. I read several authors about khmer histories GEORGE CEDES , ETIENNE AYMONIER, HENRY MOUHOUT LECCLARE MOURA FOR American Laurence Briggs Henry kam , Stanley karpnow, Indian Nayan Chanda , Thai Prince Damrong , Jumsai, and other well known Thai scholars for khmers book from prof. Mak Pheun , khin Sok, Treung Ngea Eng Soth and Ros Chantraboth whose book of khmer history he translated completely from Goerge Cedes. TRUST ME I AM A LON NOL ERA I WAS A LEADER OF JEUNESS DE SAUVETAGE.NOW I AM OLD I AM A LOSER I LOST A WAR I LOST MY FAMILY I LOST MY COUNTRY I AM A REFUGEE IN ANOTHER LAND.
True Khmer, David Chandler is not wrong; he just quoted what Minh Mang Said. It is a quote of quote. He is a well-known Professor; he understood much more about Asian history than most others. they are direct words from Minh Mang to his commander to teach Khmer all those methods. Actually, Khmer know better than them.
I read thousands of books, among them hundreds of history books. Let me summarized.
_ Khmer empire enslaved, made Thai people vassal.
_ Thai people waited for a moment of weakness, chaos in Khmer empire to revolt.
_ Khmer empire clumped the majority of their people into one area to build the huge temples. The irrigation failed, internal war erupted over food shortage.
_ Thai people revolted, swooped in and sacked Khmer capital.
_ Thai people sacked Khmer capital again to make sure Khmer empire never rise again.
_ Khmer empire reduced to a small kingdom, moved the capital east away from the Thai, and met the Vietnamese.
_ Khmer Kingdom entered an alliance with the weak Vietnamese lord, the Nguyen. The Nguyen Lord was a very weak lord with the size of 1/4 of the Trinh lord, the Vietnamese lord in the North Vietnam.
_ This alliance stopped the Thai advance as Khmer and Viet leaned against each other's back to focus only on their enemies, the Thai and the Vietnamese Trinh lord.
_ The Ming soldiers refused to surrender to the Qing empire (the Manchurians) and went South. They were allowed to marry the surplus Vietnamese women caused from the Vietnamese civil war. These people moved to the uninhabited Mekong delta. Khmer King allowed them to stay.
_ Some years later, the children were half Chinese, half Vietnamese wanted to remained independent. When Thai and/or Khmer pressured them, they joined Vietnam for protection. This was very similar to what happened to Texas and Mexico.
_ Later on, when Vietnam finished their civil war, they became very strong. They realized the benefits/advantages in absorbing people to gain strength, they wanted to absorb Cambodia instead of sacking and killing like the Thais.

P.S. The day of taking over a country is over. There is UN, and UN forced Vietnam to withdraw in 1989. Vietnam learned fast, they are using economics to control Cambodia starting with electricity supply and general import/export. Such control has its weakness as Mr. Hun Sen has openly sided with China in 2011 for more economic aids.
Wasnt it you who stated that cambodians went down after angkor. I think you need to get out abit more or get laid or even jerk off. Did you even realise even the best countries have the exact same things you described. Suicide, drunks drivers, thugs. It does not matter what country you are in every country in world has people like that. You my friend have to stop these racist remarks and stop making the generalisations that cambodia are all like that.
All are evidences in Bass relief in Angkor Wat. David C. is a well known author ,but his quoted there was wrong,or he should mention after that quote that Maing Mang was wrong. Even Zhou Guanh, the Chinese diplomat, thought that we were barbaric until he visited the city of Angkor Wat in 1296-97 as he saw by his own eyes of how cultured we were.Below are his recording:
" When the king goes out, troops lead the escort; then come flags, banners and music. Palace women, numbering from three to five hundred, wearing clothes decorated with flowers, with flowers in their hair, hold candles in their hands, and form a troupe. Even in broad daylight, the candles are lit. Then come other palace women, carrying lances and shields; then the king's private guards; then carts drawn by goats and horses, all in gold. After that ministers and princes mounted on elephants, and in front of them one can see, from afar, their innumerable red umbrellas. After them come the wives and concubines of the king, in palanquins, carriages, on horseback and on elephants. They have more than one hundred parasols, flecked with gold. Behind them comes the sovereign, standing on an elephant, holding his sacred sword in his hand. The elephant's tusks are encased in gold."
The reason we are loosing our power, because we were blessed by the golden land, nature is the mother of law of Change. From Roman empire to Angkor Empire we all share by the change of natural law.The reason that Viet is vicious, because they live under permanent shortage of farmland, lack of food and shelter is the cause of developing strategy of survival this is normal human instinct. They say necessity is the mother of invention.
Now it is time we should fight back to defend our nation.

Oh please...
Let me explain about the Roman empire. The Rome folks were fewer in numbers, they controlled a vast number. They were more sophisticated than the other folks. Over time, the non-Roman folks learned from the Roman and became just as sophisticated, they revolted.
Ahahaha, it's so pathetic to see the Khmer folks believe in superstition and divine power. Last week, they killed a man accused of practicing witch-craft.

True Khmer. Thank you for sharing that quote with us. I have ordered te book you quoted from, Cambodia the land and the People. I can't wait to read the rich history and the culture of the Khmer Empire that ruled And protected South East Asia and became the most modern civilisation expending into China. It is true we Khmer must not look back but forward, the only obsticle to our paths are the Youn and Hun Sen. We Khmer need to burn Hun Sen and send him back into Vietnam.
-Drgunzet- is still eating too much with Yunk Khemara (Yuon bitch used Khmer name) who lie all the time all the blogging site.
What you do you mean, oh please? What is the world are you thinking upside down to change the history?
Yawn at the communist comment of -Drgunzet- and I find his nonsense so boring and boring. His post is not going anywhere, just saying huh, huh, what are you talking about?
After all said and done, Yuon are expansionists.
We can stop and destroy them.
Twenty one countries signed the 1991 Peace Agreement, Vietnam was ONLY one of the signatories.
