PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- France urges disputed political parties to restart the negotiation to end the political crisis after deadly clashes broke out last weak, killing at least five people.
“It is essential that political dialogue can resume quickly in order for the different parties to work together for the proper functioning of the institutions, in a spirit of calm and restraint,” said the spokesman of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement released to the media today by the French Embassy in Cambodia.
The spokesman added that France is closely following the situation in Cambodia. And It deplores the violence which resulted in the death of several persons and reiterates its commitment to the freedom of peaceful demonstration.
France made such a statement after deadly clashes took place last Friday, killing at least five protesters. The government led by the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party pointed the finger at each other for provoking the clashes.
Cambodia has been in political deadlock since the last July election after the result showed that CPP of Prime Minister Hun Sen won 68 and CNRP led by Cambodian-French politician Sam Rainsy won 55 in the 123-seat National Assembly.
