PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Cheam Yeap, a member of the Cambodian People’s Party's (CPP) Permanent Committee, said that he welcomes the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party's (CNRP) call for talks.
During a conference Saturday, Sam Rainsy said that talks will also involve civil society organizations and be open for the Cambodian people to listen in, however Cheam Yeap said that talks should involve only the CPP and the CNRP, and a televised broadcast should only happen after the talks have concluded.
Cheam Yeap hasn’t yet clarified the date and place the talks would commence.
"The decision to set the date and place for the talks is dependent on Prime Minister Hun Sen, who has just returned home from Vietnam," he said.
The topics up for discussion are dependent on the two parties getting together to move towards a solution, he said.
Cambodia's political crisis has been ongoing since the country's general election held this past July, 2013.
The opposition party is currently holding daily rallies at Freedom Park and marching along the streets of Phnom Penh, demanding a re-election and the resignation of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
