Cambodia
is littered with old bits of infrastructure from the French occupation
and colonization, including a whole bunch of train tracks. Many of the
trains are long gone, but that doesn't mean the tracks are out of use.
According
to the description on this video, the trains are held together by
nothing more than the weight of the components and sheer momentum. I'm
going to go ahead and say that maybe the prayers of the occupants on
this "train" might as well be helping as well.
You
know, except for the entire lack of any safety precautions that would
perhaps stop your head from popping right off your shoulders in the
inevitable massive accident, that looks like a lot of fun.
It's remarkable the
tracks are in as good a shape as they are. A SEPTA line near me has been
abandoned for 30 years, and there's no way you'd be able to get
anything down it for any length without running into a fallen tree or
urban mining damage.
These tracks have to have been abandoned for at least a few years
longer than that - probably since Pol Pot decided anyone who could read
an analog watch was an intellectual and had all the train conductors
executed.
