Observers and opposition party claimed the demonstration against deputy opposition leader Kem Sokha on Sunday 9th June was staged and organised by the ruling CPP. Many protesters claimed that they have been paid up to 40,000 riels ($10) to take part in the demonstration. However many claimed that they haven't been paid yet.

First speaker: "My name is Rith. I came from Kampong Speu province. I participated in this demonstration because they paid me 40,000 riels ($10). In fact I supports Mr. Kem Sokha and I always voted for the (opposition) CNRP in every election and in this election I will also vote for the CNRP".
Second speaker: "I came (to protest) because they recruited me and they paid me 20,00 riels ($5). In fact I support the (opposition) CNRP, support the policies of the CNRP. I've been paid 20,000 riels so I just came to protest as told".
Third speaker: "I came here today, I'm a student, and they also paid me 20,000 riels. In fact I like the policies of the CNRP which helps youth to have jobs".

In democracy term, we dont say that the protest was paid even there are some money was given to the participants. But each person stand there was counted, and it was massive by Cambodian standard. I think CNRP should think twice how well the CPP organized the event.
It's not only that the protesters were paid, they were also coerced to join the protest and threatened if they refused.
The opposition can pull a bigger crowd than this if they are not afraid of violent crack down or even getting killed by the police or thugs sent or hired by the government.
The number means nothing if the protesters are fake who just come to get the money but will actually vote for the opposition at the election day. This is a fake protest and faking has become the trade of the ruling CPP.
