Travel to: a deserted temple in Cambodia

Mar 12, 2013 , by Kate O'Toole
Cambodia-Temple1Last time Michael Turtle spoke to us he was munching on tarantulas so I was relieved hear that there were no ill effects and he was alive and well! Still on the Cambodian leg of his Asian adventure, today Turtle checks in to say hello from the ruins of the Beng Mealea temple. It's about an hour away from Siem Reap, a little bit like Ta Prohm (the Lara Croft / Tomb Raider Temple) but without the hordes of tourists. In fact Michael shares the entire temple with only two other tourists - so the hum of the insects and the forest flourishing around the site add to the sense of isolation. Be transported to this out off-the-beaten-track tourist destination by listening to the audio below.
Michael Turtle is an independent travel writer and blogger. From time to time he is a guest of travel industry businesses or tourism boards.
