PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) - Russian
real-estate tycoon Sergei Polonsky is seeking to resolve a
"misunderstanding" that led to his detention in Sihanoukville, a
spokesman said.
A military source in Sihanoukville said earlier that the provincial court had detained three Russian men including Polonsky for attacking six boatmen on Wednesday.
The Russians allegedly forced the boatmen at knifepoint to jump into the sea and then drove their boat to Koh Dam Long island, the source said.
In a statement released in London late Friday, a spokesman for
Polonsky said the Russian businessman had since been released.
The statement said Polonsky and a group of friends "were enjoying a private party on a small uninhabited island when their fireworks attracted attention from a nearby military base.
"After officers asked the group for identification, Mr Polonsky offered to retrieve the relevant documents from his private island nearby, however his request was refused.
"Unfortunately, the language barrier between both parties led to some tension as Mr Polonsky and his friends were taken to the military base by force.
"Mr Polonsky has been released on bail following the misunderstanding and is now working with Cambodian authorities and legal representatives to resolve the situation," the statement said.

It sounds like secret Vietnamese agents in CPP regime detained Russian tycoons.
Only in Cambodia ! Everytime ! When crimes involve the rich and the powerful persons there are, always , different versions of reports on the incidents eg Chhut Wuthy assassination ,Chhouk Bandit shooting protestors etc... Most of investors who come
from china & Russia have thrown money & gifts on Khmers officiasl faces for their
protection to abuse Khmers ( sexually , mentally & physically ) , grab villager's land ...
It's about time to eradicate the corruption & impunity .
Was the Unihabitan Island is belong to Khmer? We better put some settlements in that island before yuon get their foot on the Unihabitan island and take it ad theirs like koh tral because the thieves are looking for land to steal.
