PHNOM PENH, 6 September 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Japan has agreed to offer $839,363 to the
Japan Mine Action Service to clear mines in Battambang province,
sources said.
JMAS has been clearing mines from 376 hectares of land in Battambang for six years in collaboration with the Cambodian Mine Action Center.
Three Japanese companies have since invested in plantations on the cleared land that employ about 200 local people.
Sources said that Japanese government assistance to mine clearing in Cambodia has amounted to $145 million since 1992.
