Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) to host
Roundtable Discussion
On “Human Right Defenders and Freedom of Expression”
On 18 September 2012, the Cambodian Center for Human
Rights (“CCHR”) will host a Roundtable Discussion on “Human Rights Defenders
and Freedom of Expression” aimed at providing a platform to a wide range of civil society members
including human rights activists, lawyers, media professionals, NGO workers and
others, to openly discuss challenges to their free expression that they have
faced within the context of their work. Approximately
30 participants will attend the event.
The Roundtable will be carried out as
part of CCHR’s Cambodian Freedom of Expression Project (the “Project”) that aims
to contribute to legislative, structural and policy changes to improve the situation
of freedom of expression in Cambodia. The Project has been generously supported
by the European Union.
Following the Roundtable Discussion,
the issues raised and the recommendations of participants will be incorporated
into a policy brief and sent to relevant ministries and government institutions,
in order to seek their feedback and to encourage dialogue.

During the
morning session, Mr. Jean Francois Cautain, Ambassador of the European Union to
Cambodia, will deliver a welcome speech to participants.
