Cambodian King’s visit to boost ties with Vietnam

Updated : 24/09/2012

(VOV) - Cambodian King Norodom Sihamori’s visit to Vietnam aims to promote the ties of neighbourliness, time-honoured friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
The three-day visit starting on September 24 at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang is the fourth made by King Norodom Sihamoni since he came to the throne in 2004.
The two countries are celebrating the Friendship Year 2012 and the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
King Norodom Sihamori welcomed Party leader Nguuyen Phu Trong in his visit to Cambodia in October last year.
Since 1967, Vietnam and Cambodia have been constantly strengthening their political relations following the motto “Good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, all-round cooperation and long-term sustainability”.
Security and defence cooperation between the two countries helps maintain stability and social order along the common border and prevent trans-national crimes.

Bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation grown considerably over the years; two-way trade turnover exceeded more than US$ 2.8 billion last year and is expected to hit US$3.4 billion in 2012.
Vietnam has a total of 112 projects worth US$2.4 billion in Cambodia concentrated in rubber planting, mining, oil and gas exploration, energy, telecommunications, finance and banking.
Vietnam and Cambodia have made remarkable progress in border demarcation and marker planting. The recent inauguration of marker 314, the last one in numerical order on the common land borderline presented a new landmark in their joint efforts to build a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
