Published: 15-Mar-12

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Thirty-two non-governmental organizations have appealed for the arrest of former Bavet governor Chhouk Bundith who shot three workers last month.

In a joint statement Thursday, they called on the government to "take responsibility to make sure that there is justice and respect for human rights in Cambodia."

Japanese Ambassador Masafumi Kuroki has also appealed to the government to arrest the former governor, who is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

The workers did not need to protest in the first place if they got paid decently by the factory owner.
But how could the factory owner be able to do both: pay the workers and pay the crooked governor ?
So everyone can see clearly that this social disturbance is caused by the corrupted officer. If siphoning moneys from the workers wage is not bad enough by itself, this uneducated, unashamed person who is supposed to take care the over all laws and orders of the place,he then shot the unarmed protesters. This is a very seriously shameful event for CPP and for Khmer nation as a whole. Now who the hell is still protecting this crook?

We should look at the Cambodian's constitution there should be the chain of commands that lead up to PM Hun Sen. Those below him should have cleared and defined role of responsibilities. From the outside world's perspective, the human rights in Cambodia has been improved but at sub-par compared to the rest of the world's standard or UN's standard. If Cambodians want to become the UN's non-permanent member, this is one area she should look into to improve. And as the Chair of ASEAN, Cambodia should set standard and lead by example. Personally, I think PM Hun Sen should establish KPI system and turn this tragic into an opportunity. Daryl of U.S. A.

This crook has been receiving payments from the factory as a protection. But what he did by shooting protesters did more damages to the company than anything else. I think the company is now more angry with him than ever before.
What really disturbs me is a culture of impunity as he is being protected at the highest level, from Men Sam An and Hun sen. If Hun Sen is smart enough and puts the nation's interests before this crook's interests, then Hun Sen should stop protecting this crook and order the police to arrest him, detaining him waiting for a trial date. At the moment, he roams freely. This is a nation of crook politicians.
