Cambodia, Vietnam agree to exchange land along border [Is Var Kimhong suggesting that Khmer villagers had encroached on Vietnam's territory?]

Published: 15-Mar-12

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Cambodia and Vietnam have signed a memorandum of understanding to exchange land along the border, Senior Minister Va Kimhong said.

The chairman of the Cambodian Border Affairs Committee said the MOU signed Wednesday was in addition to an accord offering $500,000 in Vietnamese aid to Cambodia for new maps.

"Some Cambodian-owned villages have been seen as being in Vietnamese territory since the French colonial period," the senior minister said.

"If we want to keep the villages for Cambodians, we had to exchange some land with Vietnam," he said

"Vietnamese have also been seen planting on our land so we signed the MOU to ease people's lives and avoid evictions."

Va Kimhong said Cambodia hoped to finalize the demarcation of the Cambodia-Vietnam border by the end of this year.

But South Vietnam was original Kampuchea Krom, and only officially given away and signed off by the French to the Vietnamese in the mid 20th Century... so how could these be "seen as being in Vietnamese territory since French Colonial Period."?

So in fact Cambodia is trading Cambodian land for Cambodian land!!!
we khmers continue to lose out.. as we lose more fertile land to the encroaching Vietnamese

How painful it is to hear Var Kimhong, whose job is to protect Khmer borders, claiming that Khmer villagers had encroached on Viet borders since the French era. He said we have to give land so our villagers can live peacefully.
How can Khmer villagers have all the power to encroach on Viet land because they can't even live on their own lands? Only idiots will believe this idiotic Var Kimhong.

A Traitor Var Kim Hong, you will be burned alive in hell!
How could this dumb ass do such a thing to the Khmer people and Cambodia !

Such an uneducated minister !

Let's look at the bright side. With demarcation, there will be no more encroachment. What they might be signing this new document is probably better because they try to avoid eviction of villagers. The land swap will probably keep the boundary for Cambodian villages while the Vietnamese get other uninhabited area? We wil find out for sure in June or whenever they start work laying down border posts.

1. Is the exchange land equal in size ?
2. Is the exchange land less fertile, less minerals, water excess, defense stand points.
3. How do we know are all those peoples supposedly occupied Viet's land are really Khmer citizen ?
4. How do we know the survey teams are working for Cambodia best interests?
5. How do we know that all the compensation money go to the villagers affected ?
6. Why all of sudden the Viets treats Cambodian fairly ?

From known history we Khmers were weaker than them. How can we occupied their land since the French colonial, they never kick us out with all their mighty army. All of Sourh Vietnam is Kampuchea Krom until the looser French thoughts that their right to give to the Viets. That only happen not too long ago 1949.

Hey you CPP supporter, are you joking?? There will be no more land encroachment on our Khmer farmers, that is the bright side?? Are you Kidding me?

Since Cambodia has been under Hun Sen regime for the past 32 years, Cambodia has only been getting smaller and smaller, with our national resources stolen and sold to the Vietnamese, conflicting the Paris Agreement Act legalizing and then to attract overseas investors, Hun Sen sells the land for 99 years under the name of "land concession" now the Hun Sen government is negotiating another border treaty giving more lands to the Vietnamese, BUT THE BRIGHT SIDE IS, THERE WILL BE NO MORE LAND ENCROACHMENT??

Well another pro is that the Vietnamese are not shooting the Khmer farmers then signing the border treaties later, RIGHT? What the hell is wrong with you!
