Prime Minister Hun Sen warned that Thailand will be a big loser if the Thai government orders the closures of borders with Cambodia in retaliation against his appointment of fugitive ex-Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra as his economic advisor, reports Radio Free Asia.
Speaking in a news conference at Phnom Penh International Airport upon his arrival from the Japan-Mekong Summit in Tokyo on Sunday, Mr. Hun Sen said that Cambodia will retaliate if Thailand decided to close the borders. "But what is their threat is that they have given us a signal beforehand that they will close the borders. So, I wish to tell them that if you want to close the borders, please do so. But, when the border gates are closed it means your side cannot cross to my side and my side cannot enter your side, but the losers are people from both sides. But Cambodia will lose less if we compare to the $2 billion of Thai exports to Cambodian markets annually, but Cambodia had only exported $90 million worth of goods annually to Thailand. Cambodia does not want to see this issue happenning, so I ask the Thai side to reconsider their decision", said Mr. Hun Sen.
Mr. Hun Sen had ordered the withdrawal of his elite Brigade 911 from the disputed zone, saying that the current diplomatic spat is not a dispute between the Cambodian and Thai people, but only a dispute between the two governments. "I must make it clear that this dispute is not a dispute between the Cambodian nation and a Thai nation and it is not a dispute between the whole of the Cambodian people against the whole of the Thai people, and it is not a border dispute caused by tensions between the military from both sides. In the last two months, starting from June, after Abhisit's visit to Cambodia until now, the tensions happened only between Bangkok and Phnom Penh which were caused by Bangkok. The situations at the borders are good because troops from both sides understand each other and have good co-operations with each other", Hun Sen said.
Prime Miniter Hun sen had also announced that Mr. Thaksin Shanawatra, who has just been appointed as his economic advisor, will arrive in Phnom Penh to give economic lectures to about 300 Cambodian economic experts and civil servants, raising tensions to a new level with the Abhisit government.

If border is closed Thailand will lose more. $2 billion of Thai exports will be lost. Thai businesses like hotels, airlines, telecommunications and casino will face problems.
Cambodia doesn't have much to lose.
Only Hun Sen have less to lose but Khmer people are poor. Poor will suffer the most. Please don't be like him (he is blind one side).
