S. Korea's GMG investment company, in a joint venture with GGH, has on 21st October signed an investment agreement with the Kandal Provincial Authority to build a one billion dollar satellite city in the province, reports Koh Santepheap Daily.
The new modern satellite city, which will be equipped with commercial, industrial, administrative, cultural, media and entertainment centres, will be called U-City and will be built on 2,890 hectares of lands in the vicinity of the provincial town, located 13 kilometres from Phnom Penh City.
GMG had an interest in building a Cambodian satellite city when it sent delegates to accompany S.Korean President Roh Mo-Hyun's official visit to Cambodia in 2006.
According to GMG's master plan, the new satellite U-City will contain three important quarters and that is a Global Media Centre which will house seven state of the art media outlets, Angkor Arts University which will offer arts and other tertiary courses and Online Entertainment and Gaming Facilities in the hope to generate incomes to fund the Angkor Arts University.
Officials hope that U-City will also become a tourist attraction for local as well as foreign tourists.

Your comment is at the wrong place.
Good investments and good for Cambodian developments. However, I hope the authority would not confiscate people's lands and evict them without compensation like in any previous evictions.
