The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) is sponsoring a health and information fair on Saturday for elderly people from Cambodia, said to be one of the most isolated immigrant populations in Philadelphia.
More than 150 Cambodian seniors were expected at the fair, being held at the Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, 1000 W. Lycoming Street, in the Hunting Park section of the city.
Rick Spector, director of community relations for PCA, says his organization has been reaching out to Philadelphia's immigrant elders for some time and, although the Cambodian community is one of the smallest of the Asian immigrant communities in the city, it is the most isolated:
"They really don't have very good access and knowledge to health and service systems, social services, so we want to familiarize them by having lots of information providers and health screenings. Under one roof, it's kind of a 'one-stop shop' idea."
The event runs from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. For more information, call the PCA helpline at 215-765-9040.
